Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses."
It is not a man and a women..., it is "men and women". It is "found a family", not produce a family. It is without limitation due to religion which nullifies any standing religion might hold on the issue. Got it? Btw, yes Thelema much:). 93 93/93

Yeah, I got it... Apparently you didn't see the part of prop 8 where it specificly defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.
I don't care where or what gay people do. To each their own, but I think it's funny that the ones crying about hate are now displaying it because they can't get tax breaks. If it was passed, I'd be ok with it. I just really don't care.

I voted yes on 8 and I'm glad it passed because the "No on 8" people are are some of the biggest assholes I have ever seen. Widespread pulling up of "Yes on 8" signs from private property, placing their own signs there, vandalizing the property of 8 supporters, intimidating and assaulting 8 supporters. One of those no on 8 people in my area actually assaulted an elderly couple because they tried to stop him from pulling up their sign. They had to be hospitalized for their injuries. Absolutely despicable. I used to say I'd vote in favor of civil unions, but now I doubt I'd bother even giving that much support to such a bunch of scumbags. GO FUCK YOURSELVES.

93 Say again? Proposition 8 was created to amend the supreme court decision. So of course it's gonna define marriage as between a man and a woman silly. That's its purpose. It was created after the fact.
Mofo- Well that surely says a lot about yourself then does'nt it? You choose to deny the entire gay population affected by the propositions the right to marry based upon the actions of a few. Lets draw a parallel here: A negro decides to rape one of dem fine white hussies. Therefore, using your reasoning, you would vote for the banning of interracial relationships. Again, says quite a bit about your character. Bigot would be an appropriate term I'd say. And you're telling me to go fuck myself? Well of course mittens, that's what my dildo is for .
This is my last post in this thread. I've said way more than what is needed and feel how a special ed teacher must feel. I'm not usually one to drag threads on like this but hey, I'm a bit pissed even though I'm all the way across the country from Cali. 93 93/93

Yeah it did. That's actually kind of shocking. One of the bluest states in the nation and we still have a majority who really really dislikes gay people, apparently.

thats fucking retarded. SO because there are a few idiots who got violent, then the entire gay community should be punished? What about the people who support a ban on gay marriage? Like theres never been any severe acts of violence against gays?

wow, we got some real bigots in here don't we?
there's some very good arguments in the political forums if you wanna check it out. but this was clearly an issue of fundamental rights, because entitlements and benefits provided to one group, are not entitled to another, simple as that. if it were just a title of religious recognition, then yeah, it wouldn't matter, but this is pretty much a state vs. religion issue, it's discrimination based on sexual preference, obviously!
now i'm not gay nor really care about gays, but i do believe in freedom!

People from every group cause violence therefore no one should be allowed the privilege of marriage. I like your thinking, never liked marriage anyway

Using that logic shouldn't we also ban single parents?
it just became arkansas law. Single parents, or parents who are unmarried (gay couples can not get married in this state) cannot adopt or foster children.
So some states are already using that logic. And i wouldnt be surprised if this were to come to California soon enough, just to make sure the homos dont get to have children or families.

Open letter to christian fundamentalists: congratulations, you just ensured that there will be a very high turnout of gay voters who are unlikely to throw their vote in with the family-values, "suppress the fags", republican ticket.
I laud you for shooting yourselves in the foot. Hopefully you'll never learn your lesson.

I think it is incredibly short sighted and ignorant that such a thing was amended. How the fuck can you even change your mind about that type of thing as a state... you're fucking with peoples lives and when it really comes down to it, how in the flying fuck does a gay marriage affect ANYONE other than the two people who want to spend their lives together?
This slap in the face is rank with religious diaper-shit.

Well, the thing is... the original legalization was not something that was voted into existence, it was the result of a state supreme court decision.
Then religious and conservative groups were all "oh fuck that legal shit, and fuck the gays" and proposed an amendment to the state constitution to forbid same-sex marriage, mostly by making really surprisingly vapid claims about protecting children.
Honestly I thought the publicity they were using was so thick-skulled that the proposition would never pass, but apparently we do have a lot of people who are really easy to manipulate, here.
