Tiny tiny mushrooms

Ok, so a little backstory before the question and the pictures. I started on the road to growing mushies last month, inoculating a couple of BRF/verm cakes. Around the same time i had a friend starting the same project(though his project met with less success). He was suddenly called home last week and decided to pull out his jars and try to trip off the mycellium. Anyway, i came over later that night and was inquiring about what he would do with his jars, and was gifted a small chunk of the myc that he had left on the table.
Unsure what to do with this strange little gift, i took it home, rinsed, dunked, and rolled it, and put it on a small bed of moist verm on a jar lid(my fruiting chamber wasnt up and running yet). I kept it moist and withing a day or so noticed tiny tiny pins forming. These pins have been growing throughout the week(started seeing them around last sunday) and through the whole proccess Ive thought they looked unusually small. Now I think that the caps may be opening, but these are still the smallest shrooms Ive EVER seen. Ive searched around the shroomery, but never found anything like this. I wanted to grow some of my friends mushies because they are a different strain than the ones Im growing and i wanted to collect spores and inoculate a jar or two with them, but i dont know how i can do that with such small mushrooms! Ive also researched cloning teks and the like, but they seem like they could be difficult with such tiny specimens. Any advice anyone?
Without further ado...
You can kind of see in the last picture, but it almost looks like those caps are flattening out. Theyre too small for me to see any kind of veil to be certain but when i peek up underneath them i can see depth, if that makes any sense. Anybody know what i'm dealing with here? Its it because of the low amount of nutrients in such a tiny piece of cake? Is there anything i can do to save this and get a print or grow from this strain?

I reckon thats some other fungus. Does not look like cubesis at all.
Where did your friend get his spores?

You should be happy you were able to do that much with a piece of mycelium you found....Are you positive these are cubensis? ~Pixie~

Just take a piece of a mushroom, wipe with alcohol, throw it in LC inside a glovebox.

I cant be 100% positive because the friend in question wasn't very good with sterility... dont know how he would get another species of mushroom as a contam though.
The spores are Thai Koh Samui and i believe he ordered them from hawks eye. Any way i can check if they're p. cubensis?

Do they bruise blue when you handle them?

Re: High CO2 & Small Size
Dear Brainiac, Are you staying that a high CO2 can significantly retard the cap growth versus stunting the growth of the entire mushroom(albeit the stems are small in the photo's but the caps are ridiculously small, a difference too great to not be mentioned).

Well, pulled off one of the shrooms and rolled the stems in my fingers a bit to attempt to induce bruising.
Here are the results:
I dont see anything that looks like blueing. Should i assume from their strange shape and size, and lack of blueing, that i have some other species of mushrooms here? How is that possible?

The small growth can be explained by the fact that all you had was a small piece of mycelium, and you put it in only vermiculite, which has no nutrients for it.. So you basically induced fruiting - but w/ the small size of the mycelium, it only makes sense the mushrooms will be small too.

I had considered that possibility as well, do you think its more likely that they are just tiny mushrooms, or some kind of crazy contam?
Anything i can do to save the strain if its not a contam?

Yes, take a mushroom, clean it with alcohol, take a piece from the middle of the mushroom and throw it in LC. Do this inside a glovebox.
Or, you could just order a sporeprint and start over...

there was a bulk grow log a while back and fruited with mushrooms that looked like that. It wasnt an active or edible fungus.
I doubt its co2 since those were growing in open air without a terrarium.
The only other explanation is mutation. But i still believe its some other fungus that fruits similar to mushrooms but with little/no cap.
