My buddy wants to know if and when the paddy wagon comes around for a drug screen, can he be caught. In other words if he ate shrroms the night before will it show in a test if there is such a test.

nope.
they CAN test for shrooms...but not in urine. they have to test your liver somehow...but don't worry. they are looking for cannabanoids (sp?) anphetamines, and ...what's that fancy word for downers? anyway...no worries.

Hey whiterasta, are you positive on that. I'm pretty sure I've read several reports saying that it is possible to piss test for shrooms, but that it's very expensive and it's only done when really necessary (like a bust for shrooms). And also I think a hair test will show usage. I may be wrong on that. Just curious. I'll try to find a link if I can. peace

The first thing to know about mushrooms and drug tests is that psilocybin and psilocin, the primary psychoactive substances in psilocybe mushrooms, are not commonly tested for in the standard drug test. The basic drug test, currently used for nearly all corporate and sports testing programs, checks for 5 types of substances
Cannabinoids (marijuana, hash)
Cocaine (cocaine, crack, benzoylecognine)
Amphetamines (amphetamines, methamphetamines, speed)
Opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine)
Phencyclidine (PCP)
Even the extended employment drug tests used by most companies do not test for the presence of psilocybin or psilocin. For more information on the basic and extended drug tests...see the Drug Testing Vault.
It is, however, technically possible to detect psilocybin and psilocin with a drug test and we have received reports of psilocybin testing during criminal probation and a school-related drug test. Because they are less standard, these tests are more expensive to give than the basic test. The more expensive and comprehensive drug tests are sometimes used in cases where there is specific reason to believe that psilocybin mushrooms use is an issue; for example, an individual who is on probation for mushroom use might be specifically tested for the presence of psilocybin in hir system. However, generally mushroom use does not cause an individual to test positive on most random drug tests given by an employer or school.
Once ingested, most of the psilocybin is converted into psilocin within the first hour. Most of the psilocin is then excreted within the first 8 hours...but portions remain in the system for several weeks.......
WHAT DO THEY TEST FOR?
The first thing to know about drug testing is what the standard test looks for. What is being tested for varies greatly based on testing company, expense, expectations, federal requirements etc. Following is a description of what to expect from the standard tests.
The NIDA 5
Federal government guidelines (by NIDA-The National Institute on Drug Abuse and SAMHSA-The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) require that companies which use commercial class drivers licenses for employees must have a testing system in place. Among other things, this required testing program must test for 5 specific categories of drugs (sometimes referred to as the "NIDA 5"). Because of this federal requirement, most drug testing companies offer a basic drug test which checks for drugs in these 5 common categories. Cannabinoids (marijuana, hash)
Cocaine (cocaine, crack, benzoylecognine)
Amphetamines (amphetamines, methamphetamines, speed)
Opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine)

Expanded Tests
Most drug testing companies also offer an expanded test which includes a few additional drugs in the testing process. Most do not add all of these in their expanded test, but choose a different combination of 3 or 4 to add :
Barbituates (Phenobarbital, Secobarbitol, Butabital)
Hydrocodone (Lortab, Vicodin)
Methaqualone (Qualuudes)
Benzodiazepines (Valium, Librium, Serax, Rohypnol)
Methadone
Propoxyphene (Darvon compounds)
Ethanol (Alcohol)
Additional Testables
In addition, there are a few other substances which it is possible but quite unusual to test for. I only found reference to testing for these additional substances at 1 (out of 15) drug testing site :
LSD
Hallucinogens (Psilocybin, Mescaline, MDMA, MDA, MDE)
Inhalents (Toluene, Xylene, Benzene)

okay, so maybe you are right. my bad. i do know it takes a bit more to test for mushies in ones system. and most places won'd do it. a general rule of thumb, avoid all drugs/alcohol for four days pior to a test. if you CAN'T...damn, go to NA.

they can test for shrooms its just that the test for shrooms is expensive so its usually not ran.

right, and usless after three days the test is. but if you did them the night before man, and your test is for say...probation? ouch. sorry man.

the military does not test for them. when i was in okinawa years ago. shrooms were leagal there and me and a few others did shrooms and took a piss test like 2 weeks later and no one failed the piss test.

The safest way to tell if the drug test will catch you is to find out the name of the company or lab that is testing you. Just go to their website or whatnot and it will tell you what it tests for. It is very rare for a test to check for Psilocybin/Psilicin in a urine sample but it is possible. Research before you use!
