if that's the case then it will work if a lot of people do it. If only a few people do it for the 4000 off then it's not much success... hopefully this election will motivate citizens to care.
yep, in exchange for $4000 off of your taxes all you have to do is offer a simple 2 hours a week. who the hell in college wouldnt want to do that? hell if you could offer 200 hours for $8k, i would do it.
not only does it offer many opportunities to learn and gain experience in other areas of society and the workforce, it makes you look that much better to a future employer, and it will greatly benefit this nation as a whole. i forsee ALOT of broke ass college students volunteering.

President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

i like the idea. what is wrong with taking middle and highschool students and requiring them to serve a pathetic 1 hour of community service a week?? not only will it benefit the economy and society, it will benefit the kids as a new learning experience.

i really like this too:
Quote:
Advance Stem Cell Research: Despite recent advances pointing to alternatives like adult stem cell and cord blood, embryonic stem cells remain unmatched in their potential for treatment of a wide variety of diseases and health conditions. Barack Obama has been a long-term supporter of increased stem cell research. He introduced legislation while a member of the Illinois Senate that would allow embryonic stem cell research in Illinois. Obama has cosponsored legislation to allow greater federal government funding on a wider array of stem cell lines. Obama believes we need high ethical standards that allow for research on stem cells derived from embryos produced for in vitro fertilization, embryos that would otherwise be needlessly destroyed.

fuck. i knew this was comming.
Quote:
Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
better start buying people.

Hey out of curiosity to you gun people... Do you think a more effective way of preventing VT shit from happening again are stricter controls on who gets the guns rather than banning them outright, or do you think that will just push people into the black market? I think the black market for guns is a little difficult to come by. What are your (blimeyG/lefty) opinions?

When you outlaw guns only outlaws will have them. Thus giving the bad guys an upper hand.
Obama's plan sounds like fucking communism to me. You can't force people to do things. It's unpatriotic. It's like the damn draft for God's sake...
If he really wanted to help he'd shut down The Federal Reserve, and start hold people in corporations liable. Not just fining the corporation while the CEO's continue to do whatever the fuck they want.

shit no, allow people to carry either openly or concealed anywhere, when you ban guns you make easy targets that dont have the ability to fight back, when you prevent guns from being carried you do the same, what's the point in having them if you're not allowed to use them

I'm neutral on the gun issue (I believe in the 2nd Amendment but think the conservative zeal and paranoia over gun ownership is silly) but how exactly do you conceal a AK-47 in normal everyday citizen life? What function does an assault rifle play in a citizen's life?

Yeah, I see no point to assault rifles or automatic weapons being legal.
I don't think an automatic weapon in the hands of one person is going to matter when there are two people with normal guns. It doesn't take 10 bullets to take some one down, one will do the trick just fine.
