A very interesting site, anyone willing to pay the $15 for the electronic version of the book and then share any useful techniques that can be adapted for our usage?

Doesn't look like it would work for compost or straw, but it sounds like it might work for a rice sub.

I would pay more attention to air purity. Do you run a HEPA filter? All my casings have been able to avoid contamination until after the first flush, mostly if I neglect them and let them dry out a bit, or don't cover the spots where I have picked from. Even small patches of contams during fruitng have popped up, but removing them with a spoon and using sprayed H202 has let them recover quickly.

Oh, and stagnant air in a perlite-humidified terrarium has been called 'death'. I use an aquarium pump wrapped in HEPA vacuum filter bag material to supply fresh, clean air.
