How do you dunk bulk substrates?
    #9197166 - 11/06/08 06:08 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

I plan on spawning to coir for bulk substrates.  When colonized they will be about 12" long 8" wide and 4" tall.  How would I go about dunking one of these?  I have looked through guides and teks on dunking but none of them seem to be very clear.

pour water into the container that you have it in and let it soak for 12 hours. after that make sure to drain WELL since standing water is a breeding ground for contams.

tilt it on its side until the all the water comes out. i went searching and it seems 12 hours is not needed.

And if you're using a garbage-bag lining in a tub - change the bag too..

I just built 2 new monotubs to test out and I was wondering the same thing, so I added a drain + stopper in the bottom.

The small one is 3 gallon and the bigger one is 18 gallon.  I'm gonna set up a 31 gallon next.

Sorry for thread jacking... but this is a related issue.

I have a coir tray which started pinning before the top was fully colonized... so there's some uncolonized coir on the top. I'd like to know, if that doesn't colonize before the flush is done can I dunk it? I would think the uncolonized coir would suck up too much water...
