Beginner with a few questions

Hey i recently tried to cultivate for the first time using the vermiculite, brown rice flour method. I failed and i am pretty sure its because i mixes the medium to dry. So here are my questions. Where can i find rye seed? It took me 3 days to find brown rice flour going from health store to health store and not once did i see rye seed. Also i am looking few different strains (Albino penis envy, mazatapec, golden teacher, and Hawaiian) will all these strains be able to be grown using either the rye seed or brown rice flour methods? Thanks in advance for any advice. And as far as introductions go people just call me Sleep.

Its called the PF tek. You dont have to find actual brown rice flour, you can buy a bag of brown rice and grind it up in a coffee grinder. They work like a charm and saves you the hassle of finding the actual flour. Go to youtube and look up lets grow mushrooms, there is a 4 part series in there from RR that shows everything you need to know about the PF tek. Any other questions try the search button before asking on the forums.

Thanks for the info i know i can make my own brf but when i was searching high and low i didn't know that. I seen a different video before these ones where much more informative. No info on weather or not the pf-tek (wow that makes typing easier) will work on all 4 strains? Sorry about not searching i figured they where pretty specific questions that may not have been asked ill be less lazy next time.

Here's my best advice...
MS>LC>WBS>Coir or Poo or a mix of them both in a monotub then once you have flesh from that....
Flesh>agar>agar isolate to LC>Wbs>tub
make a few spore prints along the way and your good to go forever.

My avatar does that, thats why I like it. I am sure there are cops on this site, either partaking in the forums or just monitoring the activities. But I have not heard of anyone getting busted because they posted here. I dont think the majority of us would be here if it was that dangerous to be here. Just dont go posting your name, address, phone number, picture or talk about selling drugs. Be smart.

Hi everyone.
I just made a quick little program that could prove useful to beginners using the PF tek. Or, no one at all could look at it, doesn't matter. It just simply helps you calculate how much flour, vermiculite and water you need to use based on how many jars you want to do. The figures are based on constants from what SWIM has experimented with so if any one has any suggestions on adding something to it or changing something just let me know. Like I said, I just hope it helps someone if only one person than it's served it's purpose. Just unzip the folder and double click the .exe file to run and just follow what's on screen. And when you get done you'll have text file(s) with the same information in case you need to print it out.

I wouldnt recomend LC for someone who hasnt had any succesfull grows. A contaminated LC can look like a healthy one and you dont know until you have inoculated substrate.
Stick with the pf tek just now. Buy your spores from a shroomery sponsor only.
I wont open am attached file, especiall an exe from a user with 1 post.
1/2 cup verm 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup brown rice flour per 1/2 pint jar.

Most manuals say that for one 1/2 pint jar you need
1/4 cup brown rice flour 1/4 cup water 1/2 cup vermiculite
All you need is a bit of mental calculaton, it isn't really hard enough to warrant a spreadsheet or programme. I hope we can all multiply on here or we should be back at school.
To the OP, read this
http://www.shroomery.org/8409/PF-Tek
and follow the instructions EXACTLY and you are golden.

I know it might seem like taboo lol. Im just the kind of grower who believes that PF tek is a waste of time/energy. I skipped it altogether and began growing doing the method I posted above. I use a cheap fish tank with foil and gloves to make a still air glovebox and have never had any LC or jars contaminate out of 100s.
Also I've read that contaminated LCs will either have growth that is stuck on the bottom of the jar or the mycelium will look cloudy. I also think it is pretty much useless to assume that there will be a contamination in your jar. I would want to believe that the jar isn't contaminated (whether it is visible or not) and then if I use it and it shows growth (only takes 3 days) then I know it is good. And it has every time so far.

Like I said it is for beginners just for help. No, no one should need something like this but the sad truth is some people might. So, if you don't want to even open it because you think it's stupid, be my guest not to. Like I also said it's just a basic little program unzipped only 68k all it does is simplify the process and makes it into a printable version. And, to the absolutely new person who's attempting to do these things it could be a welcome resource. This wasn't meant for the experienced grower that's why it was placed in a beginner's thread. So any beginners that want to use it just let me know what you think. And if you don't have any virus protection then don't open it I wouldn't either but, it isn't anything malicious.
