ID Request: Maine, Compost Pile, possible Edible

Habitat: Found on a compost pile overshadowed by an apple tree in central Maine on November 6. They were growing mostly from leaves, but there is various old stuff in the compost pile, including wood, hay, vegetables, etc, most of it decomposed and overgrown by grass. Humidity was high today, with showers, and the temperature has been between 50-60 the past few days. It appears they've been fruiting for awhile now, as some were just appearing, and some were dead and decaying.
Gills: White on younger specimens, and fading to tan/brown/off-white on the older specimens.
Stem: Around 2 inches long for most of them, and about 1/2-3/4 of an inch wide. Younger specimens had white stems, older ones faded to tan/brown.
Cap: The larger specimens had caps up to 5 inches across. Young specimens had white convex caps with white to off-white coloration mixed with a light brown/tan, and older ones had flat to concave caps with off-white/tan/brown coloration.
Spore print color: Didn't take a spore print! It started raining... I can try and get one, but I'm assuming these are unique enough to take a stab at.
Bruising: Nope.
Other information: At first I was thinking shiitake, because there is the possibility that I tossed an old shiitake block in the compost pile... I just can't remember if I had or not. But upon looking at more shiitake photos I decided this probably wasn't the case.

I believe you are correct falcon (which also makes you right Alan on the genus). Just learned there are 3 genus names used interchangeably for this one.
I just looked it up, and found a couple good pics on this page:
http://www.michiganmorels.com/beyond_the_morel/blewit.html
The first pic shows what is pretty much identical to the first pic I posted... brownish in the middle of the cap, mostly white mushroom, with the odd colored almost transparent looking ring around the edge of the cap.
A couple further questions though... none of them are blue, or purple... which seems okay as a lot of the pics show whitish mushrooms... but is it okay if some of the younger ones are pretty brown/tan?
And are there any poisonous lookalikes?
I'ma spore print for assurance... and hopefully be eating some of these beasts as they look very tasty if I get a confirmation.
Thanks for the help so far though!

Clitocybe nuda and Lepista nuda are the currently accepted names for this mushroom. It was Tricholoma nudum, years ago.

Nice link.

I have found many of these in a compost pile, some were brown/tan, even most of them if they were the right maturity. I am 1000% sure that is what you have. You still need a print. Try printing them on something dark. It will make the spores show up better.

None that I am aware of (not that that means anything).

Get a picture of the mycelium if you can. Pull the leaves away from the base of the mushroom and dig around. You should see some white strandy things and something that looks cobwebby. Take a picture of that too.
What do they smell like?
