Psilocybe lateritium

Well, that's what Mycologia called it in 1948. Other names are Naematoloma sublateritium, Hypholoma sublateritium, and the current name, according to Index Fungorum, Hypholoma lateritium. The common name is Brick Top.
Weiliiiii inspired me to share a few photos I took while taking a break from identifying. These were taken with my new Canon A 630. I have no slave flash so, like Ansel Adams, I had to "wait for the light." I think these are better than some of my earlier photos with the Fuji A330. F-stop at 2.8, exposure adjusted to create a natural light setting. I like the composition on these and the DOF.

Thanks guys.
In my opinion there is always something wrong with my photos. They are never good enough. In these there are little boogers on the caps because I was clearing away some poison ivy and the roots sprayed debris on the caps. I didn't get it all cleaned off. Plus, the more photos I take, the more I realize you need decent mushrooms to take photos of. You shouldn't have bites out of them from bugs or slugs. They shouldn't be all old and rotten. These mushrooms had gigantic bites out of them from some bug or something before I got to them. That's the primary reason the shots are from underneath. I was trying to hide the imperfections. I've taken over 7,000 mushroom photos in the file folder these came from; only about a dozen or so seem to have decent mushrooms in them.
I really enjoy some of the photographs from this forum. Few to none of them are mine. I just keep taking photos hoping to get there someday.
That makes your comments really special and nice to hear.
George: Yeah, the odd name trick for threads I learned from you.

It's good to see you are getting many shots of the subject too!!!
How much time did you spend setting these photos up?
The foliage in the background is awesome and really complements the mushrooms.

I am embarrassed to say how many shots I took to get these few. I probably spent about 45 minutes to an hour all total.
Advice: If you are going to spend that kind of time photographing a mushroom, go alone or take a VERY patient hunting buddy.
Buddy: Dude, you aren't shooting for Time magazine. Take a fuckin' picture already, it's getting dark!
Me: Ok, just one more shot.

LOL
I have a mushroom hunting buddy like that. Last time we went out he mumbled something about Rip Van Winkle under his breath. I think he temporarily forgave me after my sloth-like movements lead to the discovery of a well camouflaged Laetiporus but the clemancy evaporated the moment several Mycena and Ramaria frutbodies were noticed under the chickens.

Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one! One time I got back to the truck with some [very small] Amanita species b/c it was too dark to photograph them. My buddy had to spend the next half hour watching me take a picture
It pays though, nice set of pics

I always take a while to photograph what i find, its two hobbies in one how cool is that, shroomin/photography
It energizes me to take pictures of beautiful things, i love the energy/life force mushrooms give off, they really do find you, call out to you.

Yeah, I'm always torn between moving on and taking that one next shot that may better express the way I experience the scene. Having a buddy with you is actually an advantage. It helps you moving on
Those came out very well btw, contrats

Hey, Wang, what's all with the pictures...it's a parking lot! By the way, I think this place is resricted, so don't tell them you're jewish! Nice composition, nice background. Fourty-five fucking minutes? You MUST have patient hunting partners! You're right, I think everyone here is in some way inspired by others here to take better pictures. A balance can be achieved between art, and documenting mushrooms...that should be the goal. Even though we "clean" debris away, look for the best angle, find the best specimens etc.. the best shots always show the habitat, including insects. I would argue that pics are incomplete without associated plant and animal species, showing the top of the cap, gills, stem and base all in one shot! Speaking as someone who shoots with no flash...lighting is everything.
-------------------- Mr. Mushrooms said: I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC. I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi. I really do. I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them. I think they are beautiful. I even dream of them.
