 Newbie Question...first attempt.

I am new to this and have a question about using a grow kit as opposed to the teks. I have never grown before and feel that the teks may be too complicated for my limited knowledge/resources and that a grow kit may be my best bet to get started.
What are your experiences with grow kits? Do they work? Are they worth it? Should I just suck it up and attempt a tek instead?

I'm like you, trying to figure out where to begin.
I'll probably start out with a handful of mycobags just to see if I can do it, before I invest in all the equipment I would need(I tend to go all out when I get into something. Bags would be a cheaper initial investment for me I think..rather than spend alot on things I might not use again..)

If I were you go with the PF Tek it's simple,the mycobags work but you can get started alot cheaper using pf tek about 60 bucks will get you started.Hope this helps,good luck

If you got the money play with, then get a kit. But its cheaper, and you gain more knowledge (something you said you lacked) by doing a tek. If you buy a man a kit, you give him 3 maybe 4 flushes, if you teach a man a tek, you give him shrooms for life.

yeah man.. just do a bit of reading and you'll soon find out that you can do things a lot easier and less expensive by yourself. Grow kits and stuff are just a way to suck newbies into spending money when it's not really necessary. Just read a few teks and you'll soon see how much better it is. The only time I would suggest using a grow kit is when you don't have a lot of time on your hands. good luck.

i started an EZ grow kit from homestead about a week ago, and right now the "penis envy" is colonizing. i got the kit on a whim, and after actaully looking at it, i decided to go out and order some spores yesterday, tommorrow i'm off to get a pressure cooker, and soonafter i'm gonna start up a PF tek side by side with my homestead kit. oh, and don't ask why i wasted my money on it.

PF tek....... the only thing thats complicated about it is that has mysterious
alein sounding words vermiculite, perlite......... but once you get to them they're your friends

The reason I ask is because I am in college and thus am lacking both time/money. I realize that the kits are more expensive and yield less than the teks. But I figured paying more for a kit/the ease of a kit would outweigh the cost to me to track down all tek supplies and to try to perform the tek. I don't have a car so going out and getting all the supplies would be a real issue. I also don't have a pressure cooker or even a stove for that matter.

I was given a HS CLASSIC kit . So far I like it , but as time is going on I have learned I could have bought most of the materials for a lot cheaper in local stores .
The kit I have is good , but without cultivators book I would be lost and would have learned zip .
For convienience go for it , cost effectiveness .......bad choice .

The question is not about if the kits work or not. They do. The primary concept people are trying to convey is that they are usually a waste of money compared to buying the supplies yourself.

buy an electric hot plate,and pressure cooker at a thrift store for about 35-40 $total.use the p.f.tek its too easy. order vermiculite and perlite off of the internet for like 20$ total.a case of 1/2 pint canning jars ,and a bag of brown rice is all else that is needed,10$ at grocery store or net-maby12$.

don't pre-make your substrate, gives it more chance to get some contams in it. just make it as you go, it's very easy. the first time i grew, i was afraid of everything going wrong, i mean... as i was doing it, i had my laptop hooked up to the net in the kitchen with me, and whenever i had to dosomething, i'd post in the forum and wait for a quick reply. but don't worry, everything is VERY easy. g'luck.
