I've found Fly Agaric in Minnesota from the borders of Canada all the way down to the twin cities... you just have to know where to look ;-) I did a lot of research, they favor hilly environments, or areas with good run-off, so the rain water may move freely through the mycelium in order to collect ample nutrients. Near duluth I've found them in small valleys on the top of hills, In the cities I find them in forests with nearby grasslands and swamps or rivers. Look for birch trees ;-) that's the trick I found out. If there are birch and conifer (pine) trees in the same location you're more likely to find them there. Look for mossy/bumpy/uneven ground. They usually don't fruit until mid-late august in northern minnesota, and early september near the cities from my experience. Please be respectful of this mushroom, I recommend going barefoot when walking amongst them. Talk to them before you harvest, always leave some for the forest.  Happy shroomin!
