I don't believe in "God" as the dictionary defines it.
If there is any "God" to be worshipped I believe it should be love.

In reply to:

The being that created man?

I think it's just the opposite. Man created god to give reason to his existence. The complete idea of god could never be defined. How do you explain EVERYTHING in one single instance?

God in my definitions is just something that our mind creates to explain all our unknowns. Like how did this universe began? Well aside from knowing the truth we can just say god is the answer and he created it. God has been exsistant for as long as human minds could think cognitively about subjects and ask the question why? Do I think God exsists? Yes I definately think there is a higher power there, but is he there only because my mind creates him to justify my own short comings or is he there because he really is. The answer is up to you.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

God to me is the the eternal flowing source of Creation and Evolution, All That Is, The Great Central Sun, an omniscient and omnipotent consciousness that encompasses and binds all things as one. All things being an expression or perception of a part of that infinite reality. It is now and it is then, it is this and it is that, it is you and it is me. For eternity. Always experiencing, always growing.

Here's something to think about. Scientists, which are trying to find a "reasonable" explation for everything that exists, can't except the leap of faith of religion. When they ask where did everything that exists come from, and someone tells them "God created it" they then ask well where did God come from? The leap of faith is when someone says back "God has just always been there". Faith is meaningless to scientists. BUT, at the same time, why can't people who take that leap of faith except the scientific notion of the conservation of matter. This states that matter (everything that exists) can neither be created nor destroyed. This has been shown through many experiments. So this is basically saying that anything that exists, simply always must have. To sum it up, scientists put down religious fanatics for saying that God was always there, and religious fanatics put down scientists for saying that "existence" was just always there. Seems like a catch-22 to me.

Here's something else to think about. People want to know the meaning of life. But the problem is that they think if they were told the meaning of life, something "glorious" would happen. But if there really is a meaning to life, then it must exist already, before anyone has come to tell it. So if it exists already, then would actually knowing it cause anything to change? How could it?

N-A-T-U-R-E, humans project their own characteristics on it, make up wonderful stories about it with these charactersistics and call it GOD.

In reply to:

What do you suppose god is? The being that created man? The being that created material existance? The instability that made matter break free and form circular atoms rather than collapsing back into that big bang thingy -> .

it always confuses me when others try to enforce/or define their God as The God, aka religion. To me, God is everything, and everything as one. Love Hate Life Death Frogs Cows Sun Earth Trees You Me... But to you, God means something completely different, even if said in a similar manner. Words cannot describe All That Is. This has been used before, but it's like teeth trying to bite themselves. Anyone who ever says anything about their God is only talking about THEIR God. although it is difficult to speak subjectively about an everpresent omni-God, but until we are One Consciousness (GOD), we all have different perceptions of what God is. It has always seemed silly to me to picture God as this big old dude with a white beard a la Simpsons, or the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Hilarious... dictionary definition of God... muahaha

I've always perceived the Meaning of Life is how you find it.

Assuming that the Big Bang event (or whatever one wants to call the 10 to the minus 43rd second 'thing') occurred as hypothesized, please bear in mind that 'matter,' or 'particles' did not form until [est.] 400,000 years after the Primal Event. The laws of physics did not come to apply until some time thereafter, when there was a 'physis' to behave in a lawful manner. We have no real conception of the state of the universe at absolute temperature, or whatever. Creation as it is today has not been a static reality. Creation is not eternal, it came 'into existence' via that Singularity that occurred at the Primal Event. Now, the appearance of that Singularity becomes an interesting question because, if followed backwards in time, it amounts to a movement from physics to metaphysics [literally, 'before physics'].

As to the Singularity - a mathematical point - I like the Kabbalistic answer to its origin the best. God retracted His Infinite Being, creating a Void in His Being - the 'size' of the Zero-dimensional Singularity. This was sufficient to permit as much of the Divine Ideas to 'take form' through through 'Becoming,' as He willed to manifest. And God only knows how many dimensions co-exist in His Universe.

I like your inquiry, and I posted a response to matts 'my paper on Kierkegaard' with regard to meaning and purpose in life (in case you want to read it). The 'existential' side of the meaning of life is gonna look and be different for everyone. But the 'ontological' side - the side of pure Being - is gonna be the same for all of us because Being is what creates Becoming, or Existence. All of our individual existences are as different as we all are different, but through all the 'givens' in our life, people and events are all 'boats' to the 'Other Shore,' to Being. Everything can bring us to God in every moment - pleasurable things, painful things, boring things, frightening things, the love of another, an assassin's bullet- absolutely everything.

I recommend 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle to anyone who finds the above statements intriguing.

Reality. However, many people have some quite narrow views of reality and cover up their ignorance of it with popular fictions. We cannot create a definition of reality, we can only discover it. There remains much to be discovered.
