Buddhist chanting
    #9157328 - 10/29/08 11:45 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I've been looking for some good buddhist chanting cd's, but all that i've seen are so new age. I want some stuff that I can really meditate to, not contemplate.

Some buddhist monks came to my university and made a sand mandala a few years back (can you say infuckingcredible?) then had a "show" after they destroyed the mandala and poured it into the river. The show was ^^^ and afterwards they were selling wares; amongst them - cds. I bought one random one and it has really great chants but it turned out to be more like gregorian chants. What I was hoping for was some chanting that is nearly monotone and very deep. I also dislike how all the new-agey buddhist chants are broken up into tracks.

So...any recommendations out there?

Ultimate Om by Johnathan Goldman is a CD that has one Hour long track of 1000 people chanting Om simultaneously.

I sat through an amazing show some of these monks put on at a yoga studio around where I live.  They also were in town doing a sand mandala at the college here.  Needless to say it was absolutely amazing.  Totally enthralling.  I picked up this CD when I was leaving and have come to love it.  Its very deep and monotonous but not repetitive.  I strongly suggest it as it sounds like what u want.  2 songs are 12-13 mins, one is around 4, another is about 10 and one is 27 mins long, they are all great.

Perfect for meditation, even doing my daily routines while listening to this draws me in.

that should work, if not search Sacred Tibetan Chants Prayer Festival =]
