Ok. I can't find scotts 3 in 1 i was wondering what other things i could use to spawn a bulk substrate. finding horse manure is damn near impossible for me. I need somthing i could pick up at home depot or otherwise. can you guys just list off some brand names etc... for me please. all replys will be greatly appreciated.

man, i just picked up a bale of hay for 6 dollars. i live in a mid sized city (1.5 mil). unless you live in the desert, you should be able to find some.

I tried Scotts 3n1. Personally, I don't know if I received a bad batch or if the other results were flukes, but it wasn't worth a damn. You would be almost as well off using standard potting soil. I recommend either using straight grain or finding some real dung (or straw.)

If it's 100% manure, it will probably work great. If it's soil with some manure, it will probably work like the 3n1.

ahh i see...so the best this is poop straight from the cows ass? in your opinion...so like half an inch on the bottom of poop..than the crumbled cake and than another layer 1/2 inch of the poop...would one spray a little water on the poop or leave it dry?

I have never used cow dung. I believe that it should be mixed with straw. I use horse poo which is less digested and inherently contains more roughage. If I were using a PF cake as spawn, I would crumble it up and evenly mix it with the manure.
