Desiccant amount... ? (Chamber Update)

I'm not asking where to get it or how to dry them. In all the readings I've found on how to dry them, I haven't seen a single one specify the amount of desiccant to use. I have no clue how much it absorbs so I wouldn't begin to know if one little bag from a shoebox would be enough or if it takes 5 cups of the stuff. I'm guessing it depends on the amount of mushrooms so is there any standard idea/ratio? Maybe an estimate per pf cake?

Honestly, I didn't measure it, I just put in enough to cover the screen under my mushroom screen about 1/4 inch deep, and that has gotten all of them cracker dry after putting them in front of a fan for about 12-18 hours.

I'm hoping if I don't have too many from my cakes. (Which I wouldn't complain if I did.) I'll just lay them on this strainer and then lay it on this bowl. It leaves about and 1 1/2in underneath the screen. If I fill that up to 1in, you think that would suffice? Also when I see most screens, the mushrooms are usually not touching each other. Is it much of a danger of they're laying on each other?

I'm out of money. That's why I'm asking this question. I don't see anything wrong with showing pics of what I have to work with and asking about it. I don't wanna be the guy who ends up posting how all his shit went wrong.

Not that expensive to make a ghetto one do what i do it works great. Get a large bowl with a lid. pour a 10.5 oz container of damp rid in the bowl. level it out place a paper plate on top of the damprid to set your shrooms on. If you fan dry for a day it should only take a day to be cracker dry in the chamber.

Searching doesn't say a damn thing about the strainer and green bowl in my pics. I asked about my setup. A couple simple yes/no would've been much more productive. I have eyes and fingers to see the search funtion and to type words to search. I wonder what I'll get if I type "strainer, big green bowl"...

Your little bowl+strainer idea should work fine. Put some plastic wrap or something over the top of the strainer so you don't end up sucking moisture out of the air into your damp-rid too. Ideally your damp-rid would be on another strainer too, so the water runoff can collect in the bottom of the bowl without soaking all the other damp-rid.
Ideally you should have a little space between your mushies so they have more dry air around them and less moisture from their friends interfering with the process.
As long as you have enough desiccant to say, cover the bottom of the bowl (or ideally another strainer) just one or two grains deep, you ll be fine. Like, you shouldn't be able to see the bowl through, but you don't need to really layer it on.
A tiny amount would be fine, but more will dry faster, i think.

Dude Just grab a piece of Tupperware Dump the desiccant in there, put something that will let water pass though it but not the desiccant, and put the mushrooms on top of it, then put the lid on. Done deal.
Surely you have Tupperware, and paper towels, coffee filter, window screening, etc.
... Don't call me Surely

HAHAHA You don't know me very well. Hell, you don't know me at all. With that said, 1- Airplane is a great movie. 2- I drink instant coffee, just ran out of paper towels, don't use paper plates, I eat everything out of one bowl so I only have one bowl (which I originally bought to mix substrate), I eat microwavable food only, screen? If I wanna cut it out of one of my windows!, tupperware? I don't store microwable meals, etc... HAHA Which btw, I live simple on purpose. I'm not actually that poor. I'm just broke for the time being, but like I said, I have $17 on a gift card so I'm off to get some supplies!

Actually, I have the metabolism of a mouse on crack and the blood pressure of a god so I'm fine. I got my own little ghetto configuration stuff at the Mart of Walls and will post pics in this thread by some time tomorrow, maybe later tonight.
