Maybe the patch I picked wasn't that great. Would the potency vary say from one patch of them to another patch 3 miles away?

yes most likely.
I think if you continued to think eating 10 grams at a time was a normal dose you would be in for quite the wake-up call.

I remember reading somewhere that they're most potent in early fall, and then get weaker after that. Can anyone verify that?

I think it would depend on the area and the climate. Some warmer regions like flordia don't start to see them til early winter. Here in PA, I've only seen them at the start of this Fall.

I've only seen them on my street where I live. They are in a lot peoples yards just a few feet away from a pine tree. I just rained for the past few days so I'll be looking.

lavod said: 93 In my experience, they are a little better earlier. This is when they tend to be of a more vibrant yellow with the reddish orange middle(talking about guessowii here). Later on, they get to be a more uniform pale yellow but are still good. Thedude- thanks for the advice on eating them fresh. Before, I would make a tea out of fresh ones, but my last 2 times with muscaria I just chomped right into the caps after eating the skins(1 medium sized cap is cool). Zero nausea, tastes awesome, and good subtle experiences. I'm not sure how the toxic stigma got attached to eating them fresh. I think most people just eat too much anyway, fresh or dried, and get sick that way. 93 93/93
exactly man. since they are fresh and stronger they OD easier

thedudenj said: what eating the death caps? im sure if the body is conditioned specially using milk thisle you can eat em wtih out a problem, but they say in other videos hawk has liver issuses and cant keep eating em or it will kill him. any who taking a liver toxin specially called a death angel isnt that great of a idea. any who amanita M and patherina(which i dont suggest) are pretty safe when properly IDed.
that guy tho is fucking strange
You can't eat a death cap(Destroying angle, Amanita phalloides) and be fine, there is no "conditioning" effect lol. Death caps kill you at the cellular level, the toxin just collects in your liver so it shreds it more. Fun! Don't eat a death cap and expect to live, OR trip.
true. erowid states 300g wet as a strong dose. so i'd say you'd have to eat a kilo to get into some serious shit.
You guys are confusing your mushrooms, a Death cap is Amantia Phalloides and it WILL KILL YOU the first time you eat it. 30g wet of it is a estimated as lethal dose and the only trip you'll from it is to the hospital and grave if you don't get a liver transplant.

i wasn't talking about any other strains but muscaria. all other strains equal either slow death or permanent damage, idk which is worse.
all other caps besides red are lethal. there are no "teks" for neutralizing the toxins.

you mean species?
There are other species of Amanita besides muscaria which are edible, A. Jacksonii is said to be a choice edible.

Amanita muscaria, A. pantherina, A. gemmata, A. multisqaumosa, A. frostiana, A. crenulata, A. strobiliformus, Tricholoma muscarium and others contain ibotenic acid and muscimol.
This is from the NAMA in regards to the above mushrooms. http://www.namyco.org/toxicology/poison_syndromes.html
"In humans, there are no reliably documented cases of death from toxins in these mushrooms in the past 100 years, though there is one case where a camper froze to death while in the comatose state."
