Question about hygrometer, thermometer, other hardware too.
    #9168769 - 11/01/08 03:53 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Are there any semi-affordable hygrometer/thermometer combos that have leads at least 2 feet long?
If there arent reliable ones.
Do they make analog hygrometers but with a sampler on a wired lead so it can be mounted outside of an environment?

Do they make devices that are similar to a light timer that for instance turn on a heater at certain temperatures?
What about hygrometers that you can plug in a humidifier to, and when the lowest level has been reached it turns on?

Does anybody have links to these types of things??

Thanks!

Do a search online for Thermostat and Hygrostat (or humidistat). Those are your switches.

They are espensive though, especially precise ones.

I like data though.

I tried searching but most of the combos do indoor humid/temp and outdoor temp... not humidity on the leads...

There is a nice Honeywell wireless model, but it's digital and I don't think it's accurate.

Thanks.

I bought a thermometer/hygrometer in one with a lead from ebay yesterday for $15. There were even some for $5.

There are some that have an alarm which can be set to switch on when it gets to a certain RH %. So you might be able to connect a switch to that alarm trigger which switches on the humidifier instead of the alarm. But that would require some electronic skills.

Isn't going to be accurate.
And while the generalization that all of them are inaccurate is a bunch of shit, I agree that the overwhelming majority are junk.

Oh, and FFS, wait 24 hours before bumping your own thread.

So do they make analog ones with leads??

You could always put a metal pin in the face of the hygrometer and connect another lead to the arm. When the humidity gets too low the arm will touch against the pin on the hygrometer and create a short. Once the humidity gets high enough they will separate and open the circuit.

But anyways. Analog hygrometers with leads?

Thanks

I was implying a digital hygrometer, hence the electronic skills
