All based on the Clovis model, which I am sure Priz#1 is about to argue.
Quote:
As archaeologists have discovered, however, the sudden expansion of human population coincided with the loss of scores of large mammals, many of them the spear-throwers favorite sources of food. The animals that died out during this period include mammoths and mastodons: camels and, amazingly, horses were eradicated from the land.
I'm noticing the clear lack of a direct connection between human expansion and mega-fauna extinction, and am seeing in it's place a boat load of circumstantial evidence. Is it so outlandish to think that the ending of the ice ages was the real reason WOOLLY MAMMOTHS went extinct? Wait for it...
Quote:
It is more probable that climatic warming, which transformed well watered regions into arid territories, put the large mammals under severe stress, and the early humans simply contributed to an ecological process over which they ultimately had little control.

nope... I can add that the Topper site dates to 50,000 years ago and there was something hanky posted about coprolites with human DNA dating to around 90,000 ago, the DNA was most closely linked to the aborigines of Australia

Yeah, that was the point, it wasnt arguing that we were the cause of their extinction. Humans were simply one more small factor in an already stressed ecosystem. They didnt adapt, so they died out.

not all indians were nomadic, many had permanent settlements, some had summer and winter lodges, I'm thinking you're trying to absolve the guilt of your ancestors by likening mine to modern methods of agriculture... we were far from raping the land
Well first of all... you're not a representative for all the Native Americans that lived in this country.
Second, its true, not all Native Americans were nomadic, but some, like I said, went around depleting the soil.
Third, I have no ancestral guilt. I'm half Jewish half Native American. Why don't you stop making assumptions about my heritage?
Fourth, if our ancestors had progressed to even the basic point of, oh I don't know, basic metallurgy or beyond, we probably would have wound up similar to the Europeans. But no, they couldn't even work metals for weapons (aside from a scant few copper artifacts). Assuming that Native Americans somehow were "better" because they "lived in harmony" with the environment is racist. It would be like me saying that Africans are inferior for constantly being at war in their continent.
Fifth, the earlier point of Native Americans driving entire herds of buffalo off cliffs still holds.
