HIV tests

I went to the doctor back in July because I wasn't feeling well. They tested my blood for mono and my results were positive. However, this was a walk-in clinic. Tomorrow morning I'm going to get an HIV test, as I met this girl over the summer and we had unprotected sex three times. Stupid, I know, but aren't we all at times. So, my question is what could be the possibilities that: 1) the test was wrong about mono, 2) the test was right about mono, but that I am also infected with HIV?
The symptoms are eerily similar, and I've been feeling weak and tired again lately, after feeling better for close to two months. While this could just be the mono coming out of dormancy, or nothing at all, it's got me to thinking.
Also, about how much do these tests cost? I'm going to start with the two rapid tests, and if it shows negative, I'll probably go ahead and have the full test that takes two weeks for results.

Can't answer any of your questions. I however once thought i had HIV, it's all the scare mongering. The fact that it is so demonized makes you paranoid about it. When you get paranoid about it, you think about it. Then you start thinking you might have it. Turns out i just had the flu and eczema. Funny hos shit goes down eh? Don't overthink it man.

Well, I had to make an appointment for next week. I don't quite understand why, considering there were very few people there and like ten nurses, but whatever. Once they draw blood, it'll take two-three weeks before getting the results back. I guess on the bright side it is free and confidential.
I also plan on going to the doctor on Saturday to have my blood checked for active mono. Something is not right within me, and I'm going to find out what. It sucks that the symptoms of mono and HIV are pretty much the same, as are the time-frames for infection and symptoms. I guess I just have to not think about it and try to occupy my time with the work that needs to be done.

Compared to HIV who gives a rats ass about mono... Tests for mono can often be inacurate, go to wiki to find out why. Whether the test was wrong or right is anyones guess (even your doctors) but again, who gives a shit. Mono isn't a big deal, you just have to wait it out.
As for the HIV test, the chances of you being infected with HIV from having heterosexual intercourse three times is astounding. Very unlikely that you would be infected even on the off chance that the girl was positive for the virus, and she wasn't.
So crack a beer, life is good.

I had some bloodwork done this morning at the doctor. He also took a urine sample. From the urine sample he determined that I have bladder irritation/infection. If they determine the mono has re-activated, I'll feel a lot better about this, but if it comes back that the mono is not causing these issues, well, I don't know.

the first signs of HIV is usually flue like symptoms 6 months to a year after contracting it and last for a few weeks. the chance off getting HIV from unprotected vaginal sex is very low. if you where not having anal or charing needles i wouldn't stress yourself out. the stress could also be making you feel tired and sick.

Actually, symptoms can appear as soon as a few weeks after contracting it and usually start to diminish around the 6 month mark, which is why so many people don't realize they are infected until it has turned into aids. I also don't see how you say the chances are low when so many people contract it. This girl told me she had had sex with other girls, and she produced a lot of (delicious) fluid during our two romps.
I just received a call from my doctor's office and their blood tests showed nothing wrong, which means whatever is making me feel weak and sickly isn't the mono reactivating. So outside of the bladder issue, everything else is fine from their view.
My test is Friday, and it can't come soon enough. Then there's the fun of waiting around for a few weeks to get the results back. Who knows, maybe I'll start feeling better while waiting for the results and all this will be off my mind.

Like others have said, chances of female to male transmission of HIV via vaginal intercourse are relatively low. Somewhere around 1 in a 1000 perhaps, although estimates are likely to be quite variable.

The test was yesterday. I surprisingly didn't pass out or even almost pass out when they drew blood. They were even so kind as to fan me when they saw me growing very pale.
The 31st is the earliest I can expect results, but it may take longer.

I don't think you'd feel ill from HIV only a few months only a few months after infection. Doesn't it take years? And as others have said, the chances of a male getting infected from vaginal intercourse are tiny. Wiki says 1 in 2000.
Quote:
Exposure Route Estimated infections per 10,000 exposures to an infected source Blood Transfusion 9,000 Childbirth 2,500 Needle-sharing injection drug use 67 Percutaneous needle stick 30 Receptive anal intercourse* 50 Insertive anal intercourse* 6.5 Receptive penile-vaginal intercourse* 10 Insertive penile-vaginal intercourse* 5 Receptive oral intercourse*§ 1 Insertive oral intercourse* 0.5§ * assuming no condom use § source refers to oral intercourse performed on a man
Hope that makes you feel better. I've had the test so I know that no matter how unlikely, waiting for the result is still stressful.

Hope your result are negative mate.
I had a situation a few months ago where my bird gave me an STD and I had to have a HIV test and its a bastard having to wait so long. Best to get it out of the way and you're doing the right thing looking out for your sexual health so many people are flippant about it its untrue. After having a bout of the clap I can tell you i'm alot more careful when it comes to the old in and out.

I don't think that it could be particularly high, but I may be wrong. My understanding is that HIV is generally not transmitted with 100% efficiency (that is, with every intercourse between an infected an uninfected person). I also know that if you're circumsized, your chances of getting HIV from an infected person are lower than an uncircumsized person.

Dunno bro, I live in a "socialist" country, so for me they're free.
