Dry Spore Print
    #9161536 - 10/30/08 09:59 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

It has been said after removing the mushroom from the print that the print will be moist/wet and to let the spores dry before you package it or you could cause contaminates...I inteded on making two syringes from it right when i remove the cap from the print...can i not do that like do i need to wait for the spores to dry before putting them in the syringe and if so how long till it dries...a few mins or a few hrs...sryy but i kind of need a quick answer they are coming to spray the apartment for bugs tomorrow

This is how I make syringes:

-wash a petri dish
-disinfect it (I spray them with disinfectant and leave them on a paper towel for 10 mins)
-quickly wipe them till they are 100% dry (clean cloth or pre-sterilized bandage or something)
-close the petri dish, they are now ready

Next step is to quickly put a mushroom cap in it and leave for 24 hours in dark. Then I put everything in a glovebox (spray some disinfectand around first) and open the petri dish. Then I remove the cap and let a few drops of water out. I choose a spot which has been minimaly touched by the cap. Then I mix water and spores a little bit with needle and suck it back up. Flame the needle before and after touching anything. Maybe this is too extreme but I`ve never had a contamination:grin:

Long story short, I don`t use dry spores and have zero contamination:grin:

Making the syringe quick like that would reduce your chances of contaminants, moreso than waiting on the print to dry out. Still, it's highly unlikely that any spore print will be 100% sterile. Don't use a whole spore print on just one syringe.

You can use your spores right after they have dropped. Dont use your syringe needle to stir the spores, which is very hard and sharp will rupture the cell walls of spores.
