After over a year of looking, guess what? I found a blue-staining mushroom! Hehe...hope its magic...any ID help would be GREATLY appreciated. Was found growing under pine needles in deep black dirt, very blue staining. Thanks. Sorry for the blurry pic quality.
Sorry no spore print yet as I have only found 1 of these mushies.

Hmmm, looks interesting. It may be a new species if its a psilocybe. Make sure you take a print. If you fail to get a good print, dry it whole for microscopic identification and possible cultivation. I am not aware of any psilocybes being reported from TN so it very well could be an undescribed specimen. Whatever you do, don't eat it. It could be the only one you will ever see and its not enough to trip on anyway (assuming its active and not poisonous). It is much more valuable as a specimen. PM me.

Damn, had a large post and the server went down. Oh well, I'll sum it up.
I went back out to where I found this one and didn't see anymore, so I decided to just use this one for spore print purposes. Taking a print as I type this, will post back results tonight. Is it possible that this is some inactive species that just grew on something to make it bruise blue? It smells (if this is important at all) very magic. One whiff of it reminds me of a bag full of EQs. Thanks to all for the quick replies. It would be great if this was a new find for the mushroom community, but lets all be skeptical for now.

I agree - keep us updated. That is a very interesting looking mushroom.
Pluteus, maybe? <-- Wild ass guess. The blue staining Pluteus I know of grow on hardwood, not pine.

Update: Spore print color was white but very sparse.
I have spoken with someone locally about identification, and he is going to work with the spore print even though there are very few visible spores.
I had no luck finding more of these this evening, and that was with a 2 1/2 mile hike through the area I found it originally. If I can find more specimens, I will definetly send spore prints to all wishing to study this mushroom.

i was gonna say maybe it could be weilii's up there in tenn, but not in pines, hunh?
what kind of pines? was there dung involved? did you take the print on black paper too? shit! new species rock........
i hope it's not some sterile freak with no real spores or something.
please keep us updated, and please search that area thoroughly.

Believe me, there is an abundance of shrooms in TN, mainly western but I have found them all the way east too. Not just weilli, never found any of those actually, all cubes, and damn big ones at that. Sorry I just had to let everyone know cause I keep seeing everywhere about how you can't find 'em in TN- they are there if you just try a couple fields. That don't look like no cube to me though, the gills can be grayish, even true light grey in some of my outdoor beds but never that white looking. I dunno what to tell ya man.

Speaking for the state of Kentucky, I can tell you that the past 3 or 4 days of rain spuned from the tropical storm that was due south in the gulf has resulted in A TON of 'SHROOMS!!!!!!!!
So far today alone I have found at least 4 diferent kinds of mushrooms in one single yard... One or two *might* be active, taking spores to check as I write this.

It was under an oak tree, two pines, and growing from black soil covered with pine needles. This soil has not been mulched/composted or anything. Its just in a forest area where moss grows also (but no moss was close to this little shroom). Yes, print was taken half black/half white. I used the black after realizing the few few spores that were depositing were white, but only 2 or 3 spor-ish particles were on the black paper when I lifted the cap. No dung was involved at all.
ATTN: TN & North GA Shroomers...please look for this shroom in your local wooded area! We could be onto something if we can get some more specimens.

Jammer, please post pics of those shrooms if you can ID them and they are active. I'm finding tons of LBMs in my grass because of all of the rain.

White spore print? Wow.
As weird as this one is we're gonna have to go back to the basics to figure it out.
Are the gills free, attached, decurrent?
Is there a ring or ring zone on the stem?
Is the stem fibrous or not?
Is the surface of the cap covered with short grayish hairs that are flattened down against the surface and point outward from the middle of the cap?
As one last thought, please set up the cap to get a spore print overnight. I have a feeling that it will not be quite white with a heavier deposit.
Please keep updating us. This one is unusual and very interesting.

I thought one was an active pan... slight bluish/pink tint... however the spores just arent that dark - they look a little to brown to me.. So I ruled that one out- It might be sligtly active, but I'm not risking it.
That leaves the one mushroom I found that I just cant figure- I have only found one single 'shroom like this here in Kentucky-
Found this in a lawn... It has a brownish "cubie" like cap with dark gills- has a pronouced darker inner circle on cap (where the "niple" appears on some cubies) and very dark jet black spores..... only problem is that it dosent bruise blue. I doubt it's posinious... I wish I got a digital pic while it was fresh... but it's totaly dry now- realy no sence in posting a pic of it now. I'm still researching this one... not really enough to trip on if it is active, but I still got the print.

I should add that the 'shroom that Im researching does strongly resemble a Psilocybe cyanescens- which has been rumored to grow here.
