Venetian Snares 1

Uhhhh... yeah. Finally started getting into his work after years of people telling me I should check him out. I will admit, some of it is pure noise and nonsense, completely unlistenable. But I started listening to his "Rossz Csillag Alatt Született" album where he takes a bunch of classical music and rips in some gnarly drum and bass in it.
It's amazing!
One of my favorite pieces of classical music is Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto. VS rips this piece apart with some killer beats. I was shocked with what he did.
Anybody else a Vsnares fan?

Yeah, vsnares is excellent. His most recent album is sort of ridiculous noise and samples, but i definitely am a fun. A good recent album is Hospitality, Duffy is a good track.

I've never really been a DnB fan, but for some reason, the last few weeks I've been getting into it a lot. Mainly Squarepusher and Vsnares. I will admit, I know nothing about DnB.

Venetian Snares and Squarepusher are better examples of the genre Breakcore, rather than Drum & Bass.

Hmmm, maybe check out Aphex Twin or any of his aliases, Hrvatski, Bong-Ra, Mochipet, µ-ziq, Slepcy... Many others, but those are a few off the top of my head.

Venetian Snares owns. Winter In The Belly Of A Snake, Higgins Ultra Low Fuck Glue and VS vs. Coil Buttons The Chimp are my 3 favourite albums.

Try Shitmat, Ital Tek "Terminator 2 EP", Broken Note, DJ Floorclearer, Soundmurderer, most of Life4Land label, Bong-Ra, FFF, Duran Duran Duran, Otto Von Schirach, Ebola... From there you should be able to find links to other artists if you wish futher exploration of the genre.
That said none of those artists are as good as snares at breakcore, most of them are more ravey. If you want more homelistening IDM stuff (not really breakcore tho tbh) then check out my Experimental/IDM thread. The Flashbulb and perhaps Hrvatski are probably the only other artists who make homelistening breakcore and they don't have that many breakcore tunes.

Vsnares and squarepusher got me really interested in the early jungle style, I'm many many years late....but it's dope stuff. I'm not into most "drum and bass" so to speak but there's something very special with the sound of it's early predecessor. It kicks ASS, I've been missing out.
A lotta this so-called breakcore style is an earlier jungle sound that's just glitchier, more broken up,and all over the place.

I would not call squarepusher breakcore by any strech, I would call most of his tracks textbook IDM. As for the other guys you mentioned, bong-ra is the shit, check out mochipet, stunt rock (maximum terror breaks), zombieflesheater, kodek, infekta... I can upload a few albums wherever you want if you want a lil' sampler mixtape. (offer open to everyone)

Depends on your definition of what "idm" is, it's a pretty vague term to begin with so I dont know how you could call something "textbook idm".
Squarepusher has a variety of different styles in his work. Go Plastic and Feed Me Weird things (Especially) have a good number of jungle / break oriented tunes, but no, I dont know if I'd call them "breakcore". I don't care too much for genres however, I care more for music, so call it whatever you'd like.

d000d, I highly recommend you snatch Kid 606: Down with the scene. it's noisy, but there are some real jams throughout the album.
and the new venetian snares (Filth) is good, but Detrimentalist (the LP from late 07? 08?) is ultra-kickass.

Yep, Detrimentalist is amazing. Last two tracks are my favorite of all his works I think.

I personally favor the album "huge chrome cylinder box unfolding" and the first album i heard "Rossz csillag alatt szuletett" (or, i call it the dutch album.)
You guys got me stoked for detrimentalist - but i definately don't think it stands out amongst all his other albums. :S

One of my favourite albums, for SURE. Definitely the best kid606 album, in my opinion.

Ugh. I love VSnares, but goddamn, Aaron's last album was sub-par. I get the impression that he thinks he can just throw together a bunch of discordant samples and sloppily chop up some beats, and the masses will just eat it up... and they do.
He's also a jerk irl, from what I hear. My roomate and various friends of mine have played with him or hung out with him, and he's a fucking prick most of the time. When I saw him on his current tour he was obviously pissed off and being kind of a brat...
