You have to be able to find brown rice. If you can find white, you should def be able to find brown.

This might not be the hobby for you. Impatience and lazyness are the two main causes of failure. Just my opinion.
Good luck finding brown rice. Most supermarkets carry it. Or try a health food store.
Peace, Bob

Thank God someone finally asked this fucking question! Maybe we can finally get it answered.
BTW, can someone tell me where to get vermiculite? And canning jars? Is there a way to get all this stuff without leaving my house, ordering it from the internet, or doing any research? I'm sure all this stuff exists, and I'm sure I could find it all very easily, but I thought I would just ask all of you anyway. I hate doin' stuff, you know?

Actually it's been answered plenty of times already.

you don't even need to know about shrooms to know white rice won't work. white anything...wheat, rice, bread...whatever...basically just means they take the nutrients out. take a simple health class man. when you make something "white" you are extracting everything pretty much but the substance itself. the food then becomes nothing more than a filler. it may fill you up, but you get no good out of it. so yeah, maybe your shrooms might grow on white rice, but they will be sick and useless compared to anything grown on brown rice or barley or whole wheat. being a health nut veggan pays off. and somebody asked where to get vermiculite? nurseries. try calloway's (if you have them where you live) walmart kmart and home depot usually don't have it...they just have the perlite. and canning jars can be found at wal mart, kmart, and various other places...if you don't want to leave your house, get your phone book and call to make sure a place has them first. lazy ass.

Ok...so you're telling me you've made 200+ posts and are asking these questions? By now haven't you seen someone make a reference to the FAQ? Read it, if you're too lazy to read it, too bad. These people aren't here to hold your hand, they get very tired of telling people the same things over and over and over again. It gets old when the answers are RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Think about your questions for a moment, if you can't think of answers, then maybe you should get out more. Where to get vermiculite? Well, since it's obviously used in gardening and the like have you THOUGHT of using the phone book to look a few nurseries up? When's the last time you were in a store that ended in MART, there's usually all kinds of supplies there, jars, verm., flour, the whole bloody lot. Get off your ass and do something, we're not here to walk you through step-by-step. Sorry if I sound like an ass, but I've been lurking here for a while now and keep seeing the same things over and over again. Take some time to read through the FAQ and through the forums, every question I've even thought about asking has been answered in there already, especially the forums. USE IT!

You may be right, and if so, sorry MechanicalMan, but the post still stands for the rest of the idjits that ask questions that have been answered again and again.
I didn't think about the post much when I did it, I just saw his response and something snapped. POP!
