What is the famous book that was said to be written on a hash binge? The name escapes me at the moment.

Sure you don't mean "Confessions of an English Opium Eater"?

I read somewhere that Alice in Wonderland was written under the influence of opium and cocaine.
That's something I wouldn't doubt!

Baudelaire wrote on hashish (most notably Artificial Paradises). Alexander Dumas was another member of the Club des Hachichins, so it's quite possible some of his works were written under the influence.
As to Alice in Wonderland, it's certainly inspired by tales of drugs (Carrol likely had read Mordecai Cooke's Seven Sisters of Sleep or Louis Lewin's Phantastica) but I've never heard any convincing argument that it was written under the influence, or even from personal experience with the drugs.
