Mainstream rap bullshit...
    #912012 - 09/27/02 10:24 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

I'm sick and fucking tired of all this horrible maintream shit they call "rap." Artists like Nelly, P-Diddy, Fat Joe, whatever...As rappers, they suck balls. People want talent, not some half wit trying to rhymn... It's embarassing to even watch them perform...Jesus christ, almighty. I can blame MTV for giving these idiots air time, though. Today's fastfood generation will buy into anything they think is cool and "with it." It's disgusting. There are some excellent hip hop artists out there though...Such as the Beat Junkies, Tribe Called Quest, Kool Keith, Afu Ra, Dilated Peoples, Del, etc, etc, etc...This is rap/hip hop with feeling and a messege. Not some ape jabbering about his bitches, hoes, blunts, or what have you. Granted, I could be wrong about some of my claims. I haven't taken the time to listen or watch all that shit...This is also a reason why people don't appreciate this genre of music. The Lil Bow Wows, the Jay Z's, the Afro Mans and all that gangster shit out there gives people the false impression that  that is what hip hop is all about. Goddamnit, I hate that shit.  :smirk: fuck the mainstream .. peace

Atmosphere kicks ass. My friends saw him and a whole lot of other MCs and turntablists livea few weeks ago in Kansas... Said it was one of the best shows they've seen in awhile.

4. I find most non-mainstream and midstream
hip-hop painfully boring. Most of it is very
musically conservative, and even conservative
in content. It either sounds like Kool Keith
or it sounds like slightly updated Native
Tongues stuff. At least the examples of it
that you gave.

3. A lot of pop hip-hop is a lot more avant-garde
than any underground stuff. Listen to the Neptunes
production on the last two Clipse singles. 'Grindin''
is pretty hardcore, crazy stuff.

A lot of underground-y stuff is pretty un-fun. It's
pretty lifeless. Nelly is a lot more fun than Sage
Francis. 'I'm Real' makes me want to dance more
than 'Dead Disnee' and I don't really care that
El-P can cram fifty syllables into a line while
Ja Rule prefers to use as few as possible.

2. The only real thing the underground stuff
is good for is giving you what is genuinely
avant-garde and too not-right-sounding for
widespread acceptance. Or stuff that just
has a really small audience.

Like, anything from D?lek to cLOUDDEAD to,
like, DJ Screw and unorthodox remixes to Boom
Bip. Terribly un-musical or appealing only to a
very small group of people or super-offensive.

Instead of warmed-over, early 90's 'Golden Age'
stuff being sold back to white, college graduate
hip-hop purist backpacker types.

1. "Some ape jabbering about his bitches, hoes,
blunts...."

0. But, really, if you like Kool Keith and you think
he's really great, that's super. But don't be gay.

-1. I'd actually like there to be no difference.
No seperation. I'd like Mannie Fresh to produce
some dry, super-smart Anticon guy. Or Aesop
Rock to do a song with DMX. That would be cool.
Everyone could be friends.

I should of clarified my mention of Kool Keith...I like him as Dr. Octagon, Dr. Dooom and Black Elvis...His Spankmaster shit is pretty pathetic, ha.. DJ Revolution, Cut Chemist, Peanut Butter Wolf are  very good also. You have alot to say though Bivalve :smirk:but if you call me 'gay' again I'll break your face

I agree with bivalve about pop rap. Its just alot funner to listen to and groove to over the underground stuff (that ive heard). Here in st.louis nelly was the shit for about a year and people here in stl loved him, now that hes made it big those same people don't like him.

Just because he is sucessful doesnt mean he sucks. I mean the beatles dont suck do they, but alot of garage "underground" bands do. Its just a preconcieved notion that anything popular isnt "real". Just listen to it and dont care who likes it or where it comes from.

The Golden Road (to unlimited devotion)

See that girl, barefootin' along,
Whistlin' and singin', she's a carryin' on.
There's laughing in her eyes, dancing in her feet,
She's a neon-light diamond and she can live on the street.

Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

Well everybody's dancin' in a ring around the sun
Nobody's finished, we ain't even begun.
So take off your shoes, child, and take off your hat.
Try on your wings and find our where it's at.

Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

Take a vacation, fall out for a while,
Summer's comin' in, and it's goin' outa style
Cause your mother's down in Memphis, won't be back 'till the fall.

Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

The bus came by and I got on that's when it all began!
