Please do yourself a favor and buy Stamet's & Chilton's book 'The Mushroom Cultivator'
which gives pointers on the treatment of overlay, such as raking (I used to use a hair
pick [for African hair]). Growth around the perimeter can mean the temperature is cooler and more conducive to growth.

hmmm, ok, that might be the case, sounds like a good book, I will buy it.
But still....are you suppose to let it come all the way to the top or not?
Or does that just apply to the shroom wizards tech?
