potency and their stage in life

Im just curious if anybody has done any reading or research on the potency of cubensis in differetn stages of growth.

I have heard that aborts are very high in concentration, while a full grown specimen will be lacking.

True or False?

Stamets in TMC says you guys are correct, right before the veil breaks. LSAuser - pick it in the morning if the veil breaks overnight, no biggie.

The problem with them is that depending on the sample or/and on the flush, the concentration of active compounds is sometimes twice as strong in one sample as in another one. Of course, an average can be drawn and a mushroom species can be said more potent than another, but it remains that the power of the shrooms is highly variable according to mostly supposed factors, like any of those that make a mushroom grow.

For example, I have read (don?t know were anymore) that domesticated mushrooms are more active than the ones of the same strain growing in the wild. Is that because of the substrate and favorable conditions? Who knows? I even doubt the first statement, although it seems logical.

Quite sincerely, I try whatever idea pleases my mind. I did two experiments to test the power of my shrooms (posted on this forum a week ago, or so) and I will attempt another one to show the effect (or absence of effect) of heat on potency. Once done, I will try to do two comparative experiences with before veil-breaking and after complete sporulation. But this this is just for fun... anybody can do it!

Finally, the idea of potency is difficult to judge, if you are not a chemist with a lab. Subjectively, for that is what seems important for us, the same dose can produce hardly comparable results. So, how can you know? Can you? Many people say: "Yeah! That was potent!" Even I say it, when I?m impressed :smile:.

So... If you don?t care too much about potency, as I do, follow my advice: take pleasure in cultivating, printing, taking pictures, knowing, experimenting and all. And in the end, take all your cracker dry shrooms (from abort to over-mature), grind them in a coffe grinder in fine powder, stir the powder, and stock it like this (approx. 50-60gr here):


I don?t know if it works for long, but I don?t know what to do with my milion shrooms, so that?s the most space efficient way of storing and it?s supposed to preserve them for a few years. The other obvious advantage of the grinding method, is the concentration: always the same!

Drink in orange juice or lemon/water or gel cap it, whatever. The concentration will be always the same as long as you don?t consider the time degradation factor.

Wrong! The breaking of the veil has no effect on the potency of cubensis fruits. There is NO evidence at all that proves this point. Quote me one reputable reference and ill believe it - and PF is not a reference because he still claims that BRF has more alkaloid precursors than other substrates - itself blatantly untrue.
Stamets suggests that cubensis should be havested when mature and AFTER the veil has broken. The mushroom fruit itself only begins to degenerate after the spores have been dropped at full maturity and fruits harvested at this time and dried into three grams are equally as potent as aborts dried and bioassayed as three grams dried. No difference perceivable and even if there were, it would be negligble.
Cubensis spore-races lose their veils at different times in the maturity cycle - if your claims were true then some races would be far more potent than others - such as the weaker B+ which maintains an attached veil for a considerably longer time than other cubensis races - again this is not correct.
