hello, i am new to this forum thanks for having me! this wednesday(payday!) im going to buy the myco-box with a pre sterile cake with a cambodian spore.
the instructions for the kit says after colonization of the substrate i should put in the fridge for two days.
however i have just had a look on and it says the strain does not need a cold shock.
in the fridge or not?!?! thankyou kind people sam

Forget about coldshocking. No cubensis needs a coldshock.

As i found out the hard way, you do not cold shock a tropical species you will do nothing more then set it back a week.
To answer your second question: Yes, happy growing ;D

I tried coldshocking as an experiment. It appears to have no benefit.

If you want to dunk your substrate you do it in a fridge simply because cold water does not promote bacterial growth. That has nothing to do with coldshocking, which is not recommended for cubensis.
After 100% colonization just wait a week and then either dunk the substrate or put it straight in your fruiting chamber.

thanks for adding that dead, I just came back to this thread to add that he could dunk and roll in verm if he wanted to see slightly bigger yields from his cake. Looks like you beat me to it

I used to recommend dunking in the refrigerator for the reasons stated above, but no longer do. If it's summer and your tap water is extremely hot, you can change the dunk water at the 12 hour point, but the refrigerator is not necessary. Simply dunk in cold tap water, with the container sitting at room temp and you'll be fine. RR
