Yeah, so I don't have the software installation disk to be able to upload photos from my digital camera onto these computers, and the cell phone photos I took were horrendous, sooooo... no photos yet.
Going out to some irrigated spots tomorrow morning, one of which will be your SF patch, Canid. Sorry I didn't make it out there last year, but now I live way closer, so we'll see how it does this season.

I just got finished resizing a photo of this big Boletus edulis I found in San Francisco today, when I got a PM from Canid saying that he found a huge Porcini and it's much bigger than mine. What an ass hole! How dare you out do me!!!
Well, here is my less impressive Porcini I found in the city today....

Oh yeah, I checked two irrigated patches today. One I found 3 or 4 pins, the other (Canids patch) was fungaless. Not only did I not see Psilocybe, I didn't see any mushrooms at all. It is pretty exposed, so I imagine I'll check back in 2 weeks after all this water drenching and see what's up.
I also checked across the way at the Gymnopilus patch and found a couple really rotted fruiting bodies, likely Gymnopilus. There are a lot of wood chips over there (pretty sparse chippage at the Ps. patch) and a lot of mycelium and plant cover, so I'll certainly check back there too.

Oh. Then maybe one of us is bad at estimating weight? I estimated that one at 2-2.5 lbs.
The biggest one I found last year I guessed was 3.5 lbs (though it is hard to tell how big it is in relation to my hand, 'cause my hand was closer in the photo):

I wondered that, but I have not learned to ID Pine species. I notice differences of course, but I don't know which it was. I have started to look them up, so next time I should be able to ID the trees.

I spent about 9 hours yesterday, from 9am to 6pm walking around first at SF, then at Point reyes looking for edibles. I was just hoping to see one of those boletes, and found one possible candidate that had a cap of an inch across, partially eaten away by insects. And here you've found a monster. All i found was a shaggy mane? and a couple of agaricus (i think) species that I'll load pictures of later today. Checked one of the two cyan patches I remembered, and there was nothing there. All I got was completely soaked and tired as hell.

I was so tired yesterday from all that hiking that I passed out the minute I got back...I woke up today morning and found that the inky cap was halfway melted, the agaricus was giving off an awful rotten stench, and the few mushrooms i thought might be honey mushrooms were unfortunately with the smellies, and didnt seem to appetizing.
I am going to go look for boletes again now.., thinking big basin..
