is there a time frame for contam development?

Hey all! I'm a newbie grower (not even a grower yet technically, I inoculated my jars 12 days ago...but who's counting?).
I'm wondering if there is a certain amount of time in which contaminants start growing. As of now I have some lovely white splotches with no color. Is there a chance of me waking up tomorrow to an unhappy surprise?
Thanks in advance!! Love the site and forums, they're beyond helpful.

If you have gone 12 days and no signs of contam you are probably golden what % colonization are you at? Does the myc look strong and rizo? or is it kind of lolly gagging and taking its sweet time?

The time frame for contam is now until you harvest your last flush. Good luck! ps- don't sneeze in you house for the next month!
hehehe kidding.

You never know when contams can hit. I've had jars 75% colonized that went bad. However, a lot of people will tell you that the longer your jars take to colonize, the greater the chance of contamination. However, I've had jars take over a month to colonize, but never contaminated. Just make sure your jars aren't colonizing in too hot an environment. 75 degrees is perfect.
Good luck.

Some jars are at about 40% colonized, others are around 20%. Maybe I should just upload pics and you all could just see for yourselves.
I've been keeping the temp between 75-82. I've read several teks, and it seems that they all recommend different temperatures. If lower is better though, I'll start sticking to that.
Thanks for the fast responses, you guys are awesome!

Lower temp lowers contam % from what I understand and the increased myc growth from keeping at higher temps seems negligible but your house may differ.
I am assuming you are using BRF cakes as it is your first grow, and so long as you pressure cooked them I think you will be fine. I hear you don't even really NEED a pressure cooker and that it is just a plus unless you are doing whole grains.
I think any contams coming from insterile techniques would probably be visible as well.
My friend had a contam do to poor innoc procedure and it showed up about the same time as the mycellium.
But like everyone else says you arn't completely safe till it is over with.

Totally, if you had problems with sterilization during the inoculation process, you would have already seen contamination.
At this point the only thing you have to fear are contaminants in the air, which you really have no control over. So, as long as you have a good filter on your jars, and your jars stored in a relatively clean location, I think you'll be fine!

Ask and you shall receive!
See, I'm clearly tricking them into thinking they're outside:
Ahh, I think I'm hilarious. Anyway, some of them are more colonized than others:
That pretty much shows the variation I have from jar to jar.
Oh, and to answer your questions: I did use the BRF cake method. I have a pressure cooker, but the jars were too tall to fit in it (grr), so I steam sterilized for about 2 hours.
Thanks so much for your interest and advice!!
