trendal, before you judge others, are you acutely aware of all of your biases and enculturation? Have you stripped away all of your masks?
If you have not then you are in no position to comment on another. If you have, you would be so full of compassion that these types of comments would be impossible.
You need not concern yourself with another. Your own personal growth and enlightenment are more than enough to keep you occupied.

Good point.

Don't let them make you mad. That's slavery man; they're controlling you. All they are doing is just acting according tho their own unique combinations of 'nature' and 'nurture.' They're just victims of their own conditioning. Let them be; there's no need to let that victimize you as well. They have been given no incentive to behave the way you want them to, so you can't blame them.
If you can't help but let your emotions be controlled by their behavior, don't hang around with them. If you must be with these people, then tolerate their behavior. That's right, tolerate them. You just sitting there, stewing in anger and hatred will do nothing to change their behavior; all it does is make you miserable. When you tolerate them, their behavior, no matter how superficial, magically ceases to have the ability to piss you off. There will always be people whose lifestyle you don't like. It's as much a part of reality as anything else. But your reaction to it is what makes them such a drag to be around. Just be grateful you aren't as materialistic or gossipy as they are.

I sense a lot of ego in this thread (smug superiority). These people that your refer to as making you sick do not make you sick. It is your reaction to them that is the problem. If you have found some enlightenment, wouldn't it be better to seek ways in which to impart such learning to others instead of denigrating them? Wouldn't this be a win-win situation? You would stop making yourself sick over them and they would receive the same benefits that have accrued to you through your experiences.

These people are the "normal" people so to say in America. They are the common person and they just live their lives the way they see fit. Nothing wrong with the way they live I say if they are happy let them be. They are not your crowd, nothing more, nothing less.

Did you or did you not post here looking for feedback? As evolving pointed out, you are the one feeling nauseous. Do you like that feeling? Should they change to accomodate you or the other way around?
Perhaps this is what you would rather have me say:
"You are totally correct, trendal. Those are shallow people and have no right to exist. We should embark on a plan of Ken & Barbie genocide."
*whips out AK-47 and sprays room*
"Lower lifeforms eradicated. Mission accomplished, SIR! "
Better?

Ok, "sick" was too strong of a word and isn't really what I meant, and it's not that they make me angry, either. They don't (very little makes me angry...) More sad, I would say. Sad that there are people who live their lives like that. Sad that I can see it and they can't and won't see it even if I tried to help them see. They are all blind. Seriously. I was completely in shock by the mind-boggling insanity of their "world". I didn't sit and watch in anger. I sat and watched it silence, though, because I knew they would have no comprehension for what I could say. Hell, I didn't have anything to say at the time, I was too busy thinking and watching.
It's made me feel good I have the friends that I do. It's made me feel good that my friends and I live the way we do and know what we know. We "druggies" are a curious bunch, for the most part. Curiousity may have killed the cat, but we're not cats so curiousity doesn't kill us.
I beg all of you to live for the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and peace (love, if you prefer). There is too much wrong with the society we Westerners live in, and when the end of this society comes (as it does for all societies) it will be those with the knowledge, trust, and an open-mind to survive who will survive.
Swami:
Sorry man, I didn't mean to come off as offensive. There was none meant :-)

No I'd rather have you give your opinion, just like you did. Like I said: I wasn't attacking you. I just thought Adamist had a good point, one which has changed my view of what I saw at my friend's house: I am not one to force my views on other people. I may at times be a little...enthusiastic...about my views and get a little carried away in speaking them, but I will never actually try and force another person to see things my way. That's why I thought Adamist had a good point.

I've met many people like these in the short time I've been in this body. It's sad really, I remember being a little like this when i was 13/14 but I got over it, I've grown immensely since those days and now try to help people lost in such empty egoism. I send them trasformational energy and try to converse with the lost, giving them all the insight and wisdom I can manage to build. I must admit I've helped a few people get over themselves and onto a more satisfying path, it feels so good to help.

As a side note my room mate who was there with me said he saw the exact same thing as I did. Except he saw it long ago (I had never really been to this friend's house before, but my room mate has many times). Said he likes going there sometimes just to watch, that it shows him he is living a better life.

Whenever I see people behaving in ways I'm tempted to brand "sad", I try and see it in a sort of anthropological way. I just watch them like they are some other culture (they are), conducting their lives in the ways they choose, whatever the reason. It's kind of interesting. The key is to not judge them. When you are purely observing, you see more than you would otherwise. Their culture is not wrong or sad any more than it is to judge them. Study them like you would ancient peoples, and the sense of curiosity and intrigue will overpower any feelings of superiority or pity.

I agree with CyberChump....
Also, try not to look at those different from you as being "under" you, because I think we are all at the same level, just with different levels of awareness... Look through them.

yeah, that shit happened when a friend dragged me and my friend jennifer to a frat party last saturday. I was sick and wasn't drinking, and some guys were out picking up 4 more cases of beer. There was one beer left so the friend that was in the frat gave jennifer the last beer. we went outside for a smoke and come back in, and all we hear is these bitches "OH MY GOD I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE HAS THE LAST BEER" wow. people are retarded. no one would talk to us so we left.
