cake colonizing at different speeds.

so say one has these nine cakes full of vermiculite, wheat flour, and ecuadorian PC....and like, three of them are mostly colonized...and two of them are only half colonized, and two of them didn't start to colonized until like, two weeks after innoculation, so they just have little spots just starting out...and the rest are just kinda 2/3 colonized. okay, just pretending all that was really happenings in ones incubator in ones closet as one types...would one fruit them all at different times, as they come to complete colonization? or would one wait until they all colonize together, then put them in the hypothetical fruiting chamber? sorry about the pretending, but i'm paranoid, so i just like to pretend ya know.

If you want to birth them all at the same time, you can put the completely colonised ones in the fridge, and wait till the slower ones catch up. But if you're doing cakes, just birth them as they completely colonise

thank you then...it's nice information to know even though i'll never use it...er...if i did, i'd fruit them as cakes this time and hypothetically try a casing next time. if one were to compare a cake fruit to a case fruit, what would one say the yield difference would be? half again the amount? twice the amount? three times the amount?

Total yeild would be the same if the conditions were perfect, but I like cased cakes better. You'll get a much better first flush. Why not do some of both?

no point in waiting. birth the faster ones. when the slower ones catch up, birth those too. actually that may be good since you can trip every week

why not? because due to time and money....even though i've studied Fruit of the Gods for some time, this would hypothetically be my first time growing. if i was growing that is...and the casing method seems more likely to contaminate. am i right or wrong? and since you are a moderator and therefore probably pretty damn smart about mushrooms...maybe if i was growing i would listen to you. one might do two cakes cased and seven cakes ....uh....caked.

It takes minimal time and should take no extra money. If you're completely broke, you should still have some vermiculite left over, right? Use that to case the crumbled cakes. Find an old baking pan or bowl to use as a tray.

I would be lying to you if I said no, but if you're clean and careful, it is almost as foolproof as fruiting from cakes.

Sounds like you have nine cakes. Why not crumble four for casing (two into two pans each) and then fruit five as cakes? Those five should still provide plenty to trip with even if you screw up the casings.
