can contamination be internal or hiding?

can contamination be internal or hiding?
lets say the mycellum fully colonizes the jar. from looking on the sides you see only white. you attempt to birth the cakes. would it be wise to cut it in two halves to see if the center is contaminated?

If you are worried about it, you can still grow off the half cakes if you cut them in half. Or you could cruble and case them. If there were contams on the inside though, I doubt it would take very long for them to reach the outside.

If you had some reason to believe they were contaminated, yes. But if you see no signs of
contamination, I wouldn't go cutting cakes like crazy looking for phantom contamination.

Don't be too paranoid, you could screw things up.

you have a point there. would the mycellum on the outside prevent contams from growing outside but they can still stay inside, also when sterilizing, the center doesnt reach as high a temp. I was thinking when all my cakes are done, I could cut one of them in half and if that ones clean the others should be cause they all were sterilized in same pot at same time. if its not, the others may be contamed as well

That`s exactly why you sterilise things for atleast 1hour.
You`ll ensure they get hot enough.
If you`re that worried get a PC and sterilise.
