It's sad how the media gives children impossible-to-pursue dreams. That girl is WAY to heavy for her age, what the fuck is wrong with parents these days? Lately, he's been losing weight and doing better, but it used to be pretty bad. Meh.....

I've had plently of fatties claim to me that the fatness hurts them more than it would hurt a normal person. This does, and at the same time, doesn't make sense. What do you think?

Sounds like she was being active and if that continues, she will grow out of it. I was always large but challenged anyone around me to do something I couldn't do as wel or better. At 9 she needs to be aware of developing habits which will make her a mobidly obese woman so she DOES grow out of it. I dont pay any creedance to the BMI index because it does not account for muscle mass. at 6 foot 260lbs the BMI says I am obese but at 9% body fat I am a rock that burns 4k calories a day so I lose weight if I only eat 2-3k calories! I have never seen an obese person crank out 20 pull ups, have you?

You're either saying that the fat is magically going to drop off and she won't be a tub-o-lard anymore, or that childhood obesity is a non-issue because being fat is a personal choice.
Being fat is not healthy. It results from poor diet and not enough excersize, and puts extra strain on the body. As a child who is not responsible for her own meal planning, this means that her parents are overfeeding her or allowing her to overfeed, without doing anything about it.
No child deserves to start their life off fat; parents need to fucking step up to the plate and keep their kids healthy.

That is the bottom line in this issue. Parents fail at this because they themselves have bad diets as well. I can't say much for myself, as my diet is fuckin horrible... but I am aware of this fact, and I'm slowly transitioning to a more fruit-veggie-lean meat oriented diet for the sake of my child. Granted, he's several months from even eating the same foods as us (he's 9 months), but I have to start now before it's too late.
Fast food is the main culprit in childhood obesity, no doubt about that. It makes your kids happy, it's cheap, and it's convenient as hell. But fuck all that shit... my kid won't be eating McDonalds until he's old enough to buy it himself.
