Breating on a spawning sub, can it contam?

I've been wondering if you spawn to something and you breath on this sub while spawning it even with the stankest breath will it contaminate? I usually don't use less than a 1:5 ratio so colonizing time is no more than 9 days. People say that breathing on mushrooms will contaminate them but I bet it's just breathing on them when inoculating cakes/spawn. Whatch yall say?

Dude, you're dealing with microscopic shit. It is highly possible to breathe in mold spores and exhale them onto your sub. When contamination strikes, who really knows where it comes from. Sometimes you can deduce it, other times it's impossible to know. When your sub is exposed to the environment... it can get contaminated. Making your room as clean as possible and following sterile procedures is your best bet.

You can contaminate at any point during the process by any route that introduces any kind of bacteria, fungi or other contaminate. However, your chances of that contaminate becoming problematic slims drastically as you approach 100% colonization of your substrate. Your best bet is to always work in as clean an environment as possible- but be reasonable. If you're working with pasteurized substrate, you're already expecting the existence (but not proliferation) of other organisms. Just keep in mind the level at which you working and you'll be fine.

I know but I was wondering definitively if your spawning would that be enough to contaminate. I mean I've never had contaminants in all my grows, but I've heard from (for all I know) non-growers and possibly repeated by growers that you can contaminate by breathing on them. I'd reason since subs are pasteurized you'd need a hella-low spawn ratio to contaminate
I was just wondering if I could get a definitive answer to these roomers. Cause I speculate it is just growers who aren't using a glovebox to inoculate their cakes.

I doubt it, since a bulk sub is pasturised, there is usually benificially organisms present that prevent contamination taking a foothold.

As long as you're using a decent spawn rate (and therefore getting fast colonization times), the general answer is "no"- aside from an occasional contaminate. However, the contaminates, are most likely going to come from the air in the room, not your breath. The bacteria in your mouth does not come out with the air your breath out unless you have a problem with spitting while you breath or talk. Bacteria are not air-born; they must hitch a ride on something physical/substantial.

Stanky breath and minty fresh breath will contaminate spawn at the same frequency.

Correct.
However, the question wasn't about spawn, it was about bulk substrates, which don't get contaminated with bacteria unless placed in anaerobic conditions. RR
