Early pinning on PR tray
    #9101107 - 10/19/08 06:25 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I have 2 partially colonized coir trays that are pinning before the center and top finished fully colonizing.
they were spawned with brf cakes 2 each and have a pretty weak pinset.
What should I do about the early pinning?
Should I case now or will they be fine...There is no visible sign of contams, they started fruiting with the foil still over the trays in total darkness.WTF!

Have you been peaking at them often? are they in a draft free area?

I would put in a greenhouse if you have one and keep rh up and not case.. or wait until first flush then case but it all sounds kinda bad.

No on the peaking, they were in a rubbermaid tub in a clost with the lid on 24/7.
The closet isn't drafty it's not really ventilated though.

Why so, they seem completely contam free.
I think the large peices of brf cake are fruiting from underneath the coir while the coir is acting as sort of a uncolonized casing.
The pf cakes from the same inoculation  date are fruiting right now and were so fast the began pinning in the jars. so i birthed them.
It's weird they are all fruiting at the exact same time the jars that were spawned to coir and the ones left in the jar.

I would say what you described is happening.. lol cake pieces are under there fruiting as if they are their own substrate.. Fruit the heck out of them.. Could try a light casing after first flush, couldn't hurt.

Leave it covered until it's finished colonizing, and then expose to fruiting conditions.  Early pins don't hurt anything.

Oh shit.... I already put it in the FC 2 days ago because of the pins.
I'd say the surface is all but about 20% colonized, with a small amounts of pins here and there except on the parts that aren't showing myc.
I think the pins should be fully mature in 3-5 days based on how fast they were on on pf cakes.
