We're not animals, we're better then that.

It's very convenient for us to think this. If they are so very different then us then we can use them any way we want. We can know that we are a special creation and will not know the fate of animals. Thus we can pretend we will not just die and fade. We don't have to be part of the natural world, we can tame it and control it. We are better than that. Our God tells us so in his book.
We are the most terrified creature on the face of the earth.

Animals don't destroy their ecosystems, were more like a virus.
-------------------- "A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security." Albert Einstein

No, animals do destroy their environments at times and overrun their resources.
Also you are making the common mistake of thinking we are not an animal. You are consciously or unconsciously separating us out of the pack which is part of what I'm saying in this post.

I believe we are animals. In nature, many animals eat other animals. Therefore, its okay to eat other animals. Including humans.
Yay rationalization!

That is fully rational. Animals often eat their own kind. Again our prohibition on eating other humans helps to make us feel separate and superior and not part of the animal world that just is, along with any survival benefit there might be.

We are animals, yes.
But are you saying that nothing separates us from the common beasts of the field?

No, I'm saying very little separates us. Not really more than separates all animals from each other. Differing abilities.

Rational thought and the ability to transcend the social game and blind paths of instinct through psychedelics or other means seem to qualify as more than just a little separation, IMO.

Humans do get eaten. Whatever animal is at the top of the food chain gets consumed by the animals at the bottom, thus completing the cycle of life.
Though we are 'just an animal', we do have something special. That is, we have something that no other animal has been observed to have. Putting that something to words is hard to do though.

Just to clarify, I was fully serious in my rationalization even though I ended on somewhat of a light note. Under the right circumstances, I would be more than willing to try eating people meat.

Why? They are only survival attributes as far as I can see. Only special to the fear driven ego. Very few people I have ever met transcend the social game. None in fact, although some more than others.

Where then is the differentiation between animals, plants, trees, stones, earth etc
In the end everything's all just stuff. Atomic stuff, some more fucked up than others.

On the atomic level it's all the same it seems.
Some things seem alive and some not. Rock vs plants etc.
So yes I agree. It's all ultimately one and there seems no real way for us to assign meaning to that fact.
