I have been using my agar mixture( execpt without adding agar) for a long time as a replacement for water in my rye jars. It works great, it speeds up colonization and increases yeild. You make it the same way as PDA, but just dont add any agar. Just boil 2 sliced up potatoes in 1 liter of water for about half an hour. Then strain the potatoes out with cheesecloth. Measure how much potato water you have, and add enough water to it to bring it back up to being 1 liter, because some of it evaporated over the 1/2 hour of boiling. Then continue to boil it, and add 10grms dextrose, and 2 grams nutritional yeast or yeast extract.
(If you want to make agar from this just add 15 grams of agar to it.)
