are my cakes spent or what?
    #9096647 - 10/18/08 03:20 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

so i've had my cakes in my terrarium for about a month now and they seem to still have some life in them, it's just that the mushrooms they're producing are tiny and skinny. here's a pic:

is there anything i could do to get them growing larger mushrooms again? what might cause this? they're still pinning up like crazy so i don't think the cakes are spent yet, it's just that the mushrooms are so small. any advice is much appreciated.

small skiny mushrooms are almost always from lack of moisture, either within the subsrtate and/or lack of humidity.

Humidity is fine or they wouldn't be pinning.  Pour water on that verm on top so it can soak into the cake.  I suspect your cake is dry.  Don't forget to keep lots of fresh air going into the FC, and fluorescent light for 12 hour or so per day.
