playing music for the shrooms?

I know this question has been asked at least a few times on the message board but I never found any real concrete answers.
If you guys went to middle school or high school, someone must have done that experiment where you have the same plants in the same conditions, and each plant if subjected to different genres of music. The plants that have the classical music of jazz music tends to grow better, while rap or rock seems to have no or detrimental affect on the plant. Has anyone tried different kinds of music, of do mushrooms even grow better with certain kinds of music?

Mine seem to enjoy a more uptempo song. But at night they like downtempo stuff so they can relax and chill with me as i smoke my weed

Well since a mushroom is not a plant, it probably wouldn't respond the same way. But if anything I would think white noise, such as the trees rustling would be the best thing as it simulates nature.

myne have told me their preferences, in order: ELP, Zeppelin and Allman Brothers. In fact, I note a significant increase in growth speed when I go with their requests. For colonization, children's songs and cartoons.

as i see the whole thing, shrooms are organisms of life of a different philosophy. so i feel that my shrooms have feelings and they grow better when the energy around them (around me who lives with them) is positive.
so, any music is okee, as long as the cultivator likes it lol

In an effort to provide you with a concrete answer:
In The Secret Life of Plants, Peter Tomkins and Christopher Bird discuss a number of studies (in India, Canada, and the U.S.) which document the effects of music and tone on plant growth and behavior.
Most notable is their discussion of Dr. T.C. Singh's studies in the early 50s. They appear empirically valid as they were conducted with control groups (ie plants grown under identical conditions that received no acoustical stimulation) and ahieved statistical significance (p < .05). Across a broad spectrum of species he was able to initiate flowering, expediate growth, and increase seeding, size and yield. This suggests that the phenomenon is more than a simplistic correlation, or coincidence. More info on Singh's studies as well as many other experiments documented in The Secret Life of Plants can be found here. Commercial applications of sound frequency to improve nutrient absorption have been developed as well. There is even some evidence that suggests crop circles are at least partially, the result of (likely ultrasonic) sound wave exposure.
I was unable to find anything documenting the effects of music or tone on mycellial growth, fruit body size and frequency, colonization speed, spore number or anything else relating to mushrooms or other fungus. I've heard that in The Mozart Effect, there is a description of a study done describing the effect of Mozart on yeast growth (in petri dishes) which suggests that some research has been done.
I would be most interested in seeing whether or not certain acoustic stimuli affects the potency of mushroom fruit bodies. That is, will Ravi Shankar increase the concentrations of psilocybin in cubes?
It would be great to move beyond anecdotal evidence with regard to this question, so I encourage experimentation (especially if you have access to a uniform sterile controlled lab environment). Stick with traditional Indian ragas, baroque clasical music, possibly balinese music, or pure tones probably between 100 and 600 cycles per second. I wouldn't be surprised if certain strains exhibited a preference for tones that mirror the vibrational resonance of their natural habitat. There is no reason why this couldn't have a significant positive effect on growth; although I would first work on perfecting all the other cultivation techniques to achieve sterility, intelligent work pace, strain purity, reliable growth parameters, and maximal biological effeciency/yield.
Hope this helps...

Well hre in PE we have a large button mushroom producer called Dennys. I know the owner and he has gone to great lengths to put speakers all over his factory. That way he always has different styles of productive music being played to his mushrooms at different times. He'll witness to it deffinatelly work.

Or get someone to hum on it.
But since we are on the subject. Music has made no noticable difference on my shrooms. Then again, I don't really have a lab environment.
One would think that acoustic natural sounds are best, with harsher and more electronic sounds would not be as good.

20 years later...has anyone tested this with a control group? If not then it'll be one of earlier tests I perform.
I've had success both with our children and with dairy yield production in a parlor setting. The yields were amazing.

They talk about this a little in the movie the fantastic fungi.
Paul stamets(the mushroom godfather) plays music for his mushrooms. He says they like drum beats. I'm not sure how they figured this out. Something about the Indians drum sessions and mushrooms being found close to the ceremonies?? I was always pretty stoned while watching that movie.
Give it a watch if you haven't its on Netflix.
Edit: Hells yes test that shit with a clone in the same style tub with the same sub.

I have everything to run a 8x8x7 room. Actually I have 2 but I don't have additional hardware for getting it setup yet. I don't think I can partition one room to have a control group so either I'll need to do tests back to back or pony up another $1200 for additional equipment. I will use the same substrate and grain spawns (likely Oyster variety from North Spore).
The drum beats information you dropped makes me want to skip to my other test of simulation of storms using both strobe lights and sound. I was going to experiment simulation of storms with morels based on some crazy rumors I heard from some country bumpkins out where I moved last year.
My wife saw The Fantastic Fungi in theater, afterwards they closed the theater for Covid and I moved the family to a nice rural spot with 20+ acreas (mainly untouched timber) and lots of wild strains (pheasant back, morel, scarlet elf cap, golden oyster, chicken of the woods, shaggy mane, Kings, and others I haven't tried to identify yet). Still haven't watched the movie yet although it was queued up on Netflix a few nights ago. Drum beats have a low frequency, like thunder, and it's quite possible one of the overlooked environmental factors to growing.
The focus mainly seems to be food and water/air/gas. Often there is a floor of decomposing plant matter, animal waste, and root structures of other plants which may play a larger contribution to colonization and pinning than I had imagined.
I appreciate the information exchange; especially on a 20 year old thread. I had my first shroom trip a couple years after this original post when I was 20

Absolutely agree with you about the awesome research and projects that Stamets is well known for.
Several years ago I was drunk and irritated about some of the patents held or sought by Paul Stamets so I emailed FungiPerfecti... Somewhere in my drunken ranting and raving I managed to tell Paul to fuck off in not so few words, then sent an apology once cooler winds prevailed.
-- His employees sent it directly to him and he actually took the time to email me in return. He was very kind about it. No hard feelings.
