I am putting a fan on my FC... Ideas??

Ok, So I am bored today. I decided that I am going to take one of my old computers apart and take the fan out of it. I will be hooking it up to my FC to allow for FAE.
My question is, should I put the fan towards the bottom of the chamber, middle, or the top area of the FC?
Some of you might say this isnt necessary, however like I said I am bored. I dont really have the time to fan it out a few times a day so I thought maybe this would be fun fun.
Should I put a filter of some sort on the outside of the fan as well? To keep out any crap from being sucked in.... I dont think that I would need to but I thought Id ask.
Thanks in advance guys... and yes, I will be posting pictures of the project and final piece. I already took the fan apart and stuff so all I have to do is mount it.

I would put it at the bottom pointing out so that there's not a gust of wind on the substrate and shrooms. If there's not intake areas, I'd say make a few holes at the top so each is a light flow inward. Polyfill would help keep contam out, but it's not necessary if the substrate is fully colonized. But my opinion is why not add polyfill...?

I have holes drilled throughout the chamber... all sides... Not as many as in the RR videos, but enough I think. I was thinking the bottom too this way I can move out the CO air and out of the chamber. Does that make sense?

you should contact Hippiechick about this. she uses computer fans and coolmist humidifyers pvc piped into her greenhouse fc's . looks really nice. i think somehow the air from the computer fan mixes with the air from the coolmist at a "T" connection in the pvc pipe. she's a trusted cultivator and has beautiful full flushes. alot of chicks can do things in life better than dudes.

You could always put it on a timer so it only runs a few minutes per hour. Having it pointing out seems better than blowing air in since you might dry out your terrarium.

Yea, I am definatly going to be putting it on a timer. I figure maybe 15-20mins every 2 hours?? I just need to know if I should put it towards the bottom or the top of the FC

Why not the side? I would have it on the side sucking air out so there will be a nice current created by the negative pressure inside.

hmm... So you think that sucking the air OUT would be better then blowing the air in?? So if I am going to be sucking air out, shouldn't I put the fan towards the bottom of the chamber to suck out the CO2?

having a fan sucking air out is going to do nothing for fae. have it blow in. remember that in humidt conditions a pc fan will short out after a few months.
manual systems work much better.

Are you doing cakes or a bulk sub?
Wherever you would put the fan would introduce enough pressure, I think, that would cause fresh air to flow in and displace the CO2. Depending on the size of your terrarium, sucking the air out seems like it has lower potential for drying out your substrate.

I've thought about doing this, in my design ive drawn up the fan is sitting about 2inchs higher then the perlite in my shotgun style FC. Mine would be sucking air out of the FC as that seems like it would bring in less contaminates. I however dont have a coolmist setup yet so i've held off on this as I fear I may struggle to keep RH 95+%. The fan could be a great way of ensuring excellent FAE if you can keep RH up. I do have a question for ya nuzzle, How were you planning on powering the fan? Computer PSU or AC/DC converter and adjusting voltage? I've thought of trying to power it off of some rechargeable style battery too.

Right around the perlite layer is best, but I bet anywhere is probably fine.

I will be posting my tek with pictures as soon as I figure out where Im going to put the fan... lol, It is powered up using a cell phone charger. It will be plugged into a timer to allow 15-20min on every 2 hours or so.

Ok, I will be putting it towards the bottom of the chamber off to the side. I should have this finished within the next 30-45mins or so... stay tuned for pictures.

You are going to need a lot of fans. Like said before they will short out after a few months. I was going to use them but was told to buy lots of them. A cool mist will do some FAE.

Well I do not agree with this statement at all... If there are holes in this FC and you are creating suction with a computer fan that is more then 30CFM or so you WILL draw in fresh air.

Well im not worried about the fan shorting out... they are about 1.50... Not to mention I will be working on getting it so no moisture can get to the fan. I have a few ideas of how to do that.

About the fans shorting out, some kind of moisture catch could be used. At the price of FREE to maybe 6 bucks for a decent CFM fan replacing every 6 months isnt so bad I guess.. You are on the right track nuzzle let your mind go wild. I hadnt thought about using a cellphone charger thats pretty smart because the voltage is already regulated.

manual systems work much better.
What goes out must come in - it's no different regarding fae, or at least negligible difference.
I don't agree that manual systems work better - it's all about the same - fresh air from an electronic fan is no better or worse than fresh air from someone flapping something to exchange the air. I would assume most people are not in a position to manually fan their FCs for much of the day - working, sleeping, going out, etc. Considering that, a manual system can only work a few hours a day that you're home, it's inferior imo.
You are right that humidity will negatively effect the fan over time, but there are other options like waterproof fans: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/9089385/an/0/page/0
REgarding position, I say at the bottom due to co2 being heavier and it will naturally seap out when the fan isn't on. Middle or at the top might not be much different since the air in the FC will be moving a good bit while the fan is on - the co2 will get mixed with the o2.

Wal mart and many other places sells multi-voltage adapters 3-24v or thereabouts. You can adjust the voltage to speed up or slow down the fan. I believe most fans are 12 volts, so just don't go higher and should be fine.
