Proper incubation of jars for PF Tek

Im about to inoculate my jars tonight for my first grow. My questions is about the incubation of those jars. Is it necessary to have the jars in an open environment or will they be affected by sitting in a sterilized cooler. Im wondering if they needed open air for gas exchange or if they will do okay locked up. The humidity is naturally pretty high in the environment, though Im not sure what kind of effect humidity has on the mycelium during the incubation of the jars. Any advice for the incubation period? Also, Ive read that leaving the tin foil on the jars is safer for contamination reasons, but Ive also read that it should be removed for proper gas exchange. Any advice to this noobster would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Humidity outside the jars is irrelevant as it won't affect the inside. If you put them in a cooler, they will have gas exchange to a point, but eventually the co2 will build up in the cooler itself since it's heavier than o2. I'd say fan the air out once a day or so and they'll be fine in the cooler.
Remove the foil. The dry verm layer, that's your contam barrier. I'm assuming you're doing the pftek...
I keep incubation temp around 80, but others will tell you different. I think most agree that somewhere between 75-81 is where it should be. Colonization should be complete with half pint jars in about 2-3 weeks if everything is close to ideal.
Good luck

Use Micropore tape over the holes... I've had better results with the tape rather then leaving the foil on the top of the jars.

I always had mine inside a opaque plastic box, foil on loosely.
However, I've found sometimes my mycelium stalls growth. I'll then crack the lid just enough not to seal the plastic box, they resume growth right after.
Don't peak at your jars a hundred times a day, leave them be otherwise they will slow growth, check on then every 3 days or so.

If the substrate is too dry it will have a hard time growing. They sould still grow inside a sterile box. they don't need to much air exchange as they are starting just to pin and fruit , but it might be slightly faster if you left it out, but most of the speed is all ready deterimed genecticly. If the enviroment is clean, you don't need a incubator. The 86 degree myth was started when someone told Paul they had found the fasted growth on a perti was at 86 degrees. Those condition worked best at that time with that strain but, the incubator is not needed but, keeps thing together and out of the way. Not asying it won't work, just not needed. There is alot of these kind of misconception.
