Day 21??

Hows it going. This is my first grow. PF Classic. I knocked up 10, 1/2 pint jars, with B+, 21 days ago. I think they have halted growth. Im not sure if they halted growth or are finished producing mycelium. From the outside the jars are all white with mycelium, as well as the bottom of the jar, however, the mycelium looks wimsy. It seems that if I were to try and birth the cakes for a dunk and roll, they would fall apart. Check the pic. Do you think I should birth the cakes, or should I crumble the cakes and go for a casing? Thanks for the help peeps.

Why do you have foil under the lids??? Some of those dont look fully colinised. Im finding it hard to see where your dry verm layer is though.

I would crumble them. you can add extra water by misting the casing layer. Or even put a casing layer under the substrate. this will collect the water that runs under the tray and suply it back to the substrate.

The foil under the lids was just an extra added protection for water to enter the jars during PCing. During inoculation the syringe just poked through the foil to provide the vent holes. However, as a noob, I didn't relize the myc needed vent holes. I thought it was better to cover them up so no contamns could enter. I had the vent holes covered for the first 14 days, then uncovered them. Growth was progressive until I actually uncovered the vent holes to allow air come through. I have no clue why? You think I should case? Or Fruit the cakes?

The dry verm begins at the bottom of the metal lid.

When all of the substrate you see in the jar is covered in mycelium, wait 5-7 days and then fruit.

no do not crumble and case. leave them as cakes, rolled in verm. rolling them in verm acts like a casing layer. why crumble them (which waistes time and energy) when rolling in verm does pretty much the same job. if you want to crumble your cakes into a tray then spawn it to a bulk sub.
straight casing cakes does not increase yeilds.

At this point im not even looking for high yields. A single growing fruit will make me happy. Just wondering if by casing the mycelium, will give it a chance to re-establish itself. I think by dunking and rolling, mycelium will not fruit, because it seems it has stopped growing inside the jar. No signs of pinning inside the jar, no signs of knotting either.

They look nearly fully colonized except for the dry verm on top. Wait one week from today, and then birth, dunk and roll, and place in terrarium with lights, etc. Don't case, at least not on your first grow. RR

Yeah dude, don't think. Use your head, but don't think this thing out too much. Just read the tek and FOLLOW IT WORD FOR WORD. You have already demonstrated that your not willing to following the tek precisely, and this is important because you want guaranteed success right?? And if you follow the PF Tek you will be guaranteed success. And when you see your fruits you'll be like, "oh hell yeah!" and you'll read a tek on taking prints and you'll follow that precisely and you'll have plenty of shroomies to enjoy with the know-how of turning your last crop into a new crop, and then you'll have a foundation of understanding to experiment.
However it's quite frustrating to troubleshoot a first timer "experimenting" with the rock solid PF tek. Just do it. (Listen to RogerRabbit that is. Wait a week, pop 'em out, dunk & roll, 95%RH and lots of fresh air exchange, bada bing bada boom you got shrooms)
