RR's Shotgun Tek Quick Question
    #9091479 - 10/17/08 12:14 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

For RRs shotgun FC, will a 4.9149mm (.1935") bit work in place of the 6mm if I put more holes in it? Will I get enough air exchange?

Is there a possibility of too many holes in doing this type of FC?

What is most important here is the amount of area covered by those holes (and therefore, the amount of air exchange provided).  If you use the 4.9149mm bit, versus the 6mm bit, you'll need ~50% more holes to accommodate the difference in area (and therefore, air exchange) provided.

Area = 3.14159x r^2

Area for the 4mm bit = ~75.89mm^2
Area for the 6mm bit = ~113.1 mm^2
~50% more holes will be needed.

So, if you're punching 100 holes with a 6mm bit, you'll need about 150 holes using the 4 mm bit.

I like to find the deepest tubs I can .... so I can really increase the depth of the damp perlite if needed.

Lots of variables here .... size of holes, number of holes, air flow, depth of perlite, moisture content of perlite, relative humidity in room ....

Start somewhere. Experiment and adjust.

Good luck.
