    #9090292 - 10/17/08 05:35 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

hay guys this is my first bulk and i wanted to post some pics. i dont know if this is good or not, all the pics i see have huge Fushes, however this one doesnt have a ton of mushies but the ones it does have are huge. These are EQD grown on store bought composted manure and straw cased in verm/coir. Please give me any advice you may have

give some more details about your fruiting set up and casing depth. it looks like your fruits were close to the edges which can indecate a lak of moisture/humidity. ie: more misting. i would pick those, dunk the substrate for eight hours to over night. pour off the water and replace any casing material that washed off. make sure its pasturized. then refruit. but wait for other advice as well as i am new too.

well Ive got pins coming up in the middle as well you just cant see them from the pic. the ones you see haven't really even started to form the Vail yet. i have them in a tub with polyfill holes, i mist once ma-by twice a day and fan at least 3 times, the RH is high judging by the condensation  on the tub walls the casing depth is about half a inch, it colonized my first causing layer so i scratched and applied more verm

You can't judge RH by the condensation on the walls of your tub.  Get yourself a real Hygrometer to be sure.

The condensation forming on the tub is a result of the temperature differential of the inside of the tub and the outside of the tub.  The Cool wall forces water molecules (which are naturally present in air) to clump together forming water droplets.  Nothing more, nothing less.

alllllrright...

the RH is to high for my gage to measure, i have a Accu-rite combo thermometer and hygrometer i got from myco supply, anyway the temp inside the tub is 75 degrees F now, but i have my tubs under a window so later in the afternoon the temp goes up around 80 or so

if you just applied verm to the top and put it straight in your FC to fruit thats probably the cause of the uneven pinset. Most recommend patching, which if you are not familiar, is when you let about 10-20 percent of the casing layer colonize and then you apply more casing to those spots only so that when the casing layer DOES get 20-30% colonized, it is colonized evenly, this creating a more even pinset.

Now i do not know if this holds true AFTER your casing layer has been COMPLETELY colonized (and scratched)...i would put forth my best effort next time to ensure an even pinset with close supervision (after the 3 day waiting period of course!;)) and patching. Once 20-30% of your casing layer is EVENLY colonized, then go ahead and fruit!
