OK so heres the scenario. I had 2 casings, both made with 2 brf cakes each, cased in verm and peat moss 50/50 style with a little oyster shell tossed in for the whole Ph thing. I had great first flushes on both casings but when it was time for second flushes heres what i did. I read the whole thing about making sure you have all of the aborts picked off of the casings so they don't rot and contam the casings so I ended up scraping off the top layer of the casing with a spoon cause picking them all off proved to be a huge pain in the ass (there was alot off them little fuckers). Anyway the second flushes so far seem to be super weak (Ive got a few shrooms poppin up on each casing) I just wanted any input as to what you guys think Ive done wrong and how i could ensure that my second flushes are not shitty from here on out.

Don't pick any pins off unless the cap heads have turned black. Those would have grown. Dunk the whole thing between flushes. If it's too big to shove under water in a pot, leave it under a very *Lightly running sink for a few hours. Rehydrate that shit indeedly. Misting might not cut it. Shrooms are about 80-90% water so remember every shroom you see is taking up almost that much water out of the substrate. Sometimes it takes several days for the next flush to begin as well.
It's also noteworthy, that some of the biggest, craziest looking shrooms i ever grew were on 2nd or 3rd flushes. SOmetimes it is not even a uniform flush, but definitely worth trying to do.

Thanks for the rapid response. I'll take your advise on my next go around. I currently have 2 more casings i just started, I used three BRF cakes for my casings this time around.
