Rye/Poo cake mystery.

I recently experimented with rye/poo cakes. So one part rye flour, one part shredded horse poo, two parts vermiculite and one part water. I inoculated the jars with a spore dense syringe and had incubated now for 10days @ 85degrees with no signs of growth.
So I am pondering my reasons for the failure. Firstly the syringe is unlikely to be contaminated as I have successfully inoculated rye berries in the same batch. So that has left me wondering if my ratio of horse poo to rye has upset my growth? I made this mixture on the dry side as rye tends to get sticky, so in other words I dry loaded the poo to soak up the moisture. Has anyone had problems with using poo in cakes? And also does rye flour tend to be more problematic?
Thanks for your time guys and girls.....

Spores typically will not germinate out on poo alone, also did you leach said poo well enough first? Was it pretty compact or light and fluffy? was GE available? What does it smell like now?

It has a nice sweet smell to it, a bit like fresh rye bread, funny enough. None of that distinctive bacteria fermenting smell.
The texture was fluffy when loaded as I used a whisk to mix, and now it has stuck together slightly and when you squeeze it, it all clumps together like mud.
Sorry, what did you mean by "Was GE available"?

It was loaded very lightly and fluffy...... I've had no other problems with my other rye jars with the same texture but with less poo (tho they are slow colonizers).

I seem to stand by my first notion, and add another.
Your poo must not have been leached right, or some factor to that extent

It's well weathered and old horse poo, no pee smell. So I assume it required no leaching.

Hmm, maybe gravity played against you here, and packed everything together in the PC or after inoculation? or perhaps you used too much inoculant

Yea the rye/poo being too dense is looking the likely cause. I thought I loaded it on the dry side, but it still must of been too wet. I only used about 1cc of spore solution per jar.
Can too many spores actually stall all growth?
p.s. Thanks for your suggestions P.Menace, much appreciated.

That question will be and can be ansewered from both sides of the spectrum.
Personally I say no, the number of spores just allows for a better chance of strong genetics.
Someone will say otherwise.

No, I hear they are quite rare, unless you know precisely where to look. I would love to find our other native species, the Psilocybe Makarorae(loves our native Manuka trees).

I wish I lived in a place where Active mushrooms grew...
but alas I do not. Catch some of them prints and they are worth some good trade weight around here.
