Ready to start

For the last month or so Ive been being a naughty little voyeur: watching, reading, peeping on the forum.
So Im starting the pf tek this weekend - I have all the supplies and will be following the info from mushroomvideos.com
Is there anything I need to look out for or pay extra attention to that wasnt covered in the videos? My roomate has helped a little, but I know shes not good at remembering the details and will probably steer me wrong sooner or later...

I'm using roomie's pressure cooker for 90 minutes because it's only 10 psi. The video showed the dunk and roll, but not when to pick. Pick when the veil tears, right? I don't know what that looks like, but I imagine it will be obvious when I get to that stage.

yes it will be obvious when the veil breaks. you can pick them before that if you want. once the veil breaks they will generally not grow anymore.I encourage taking prints. You WILL want them after you are done.I'm glad to see you are using a PC. good luck, and feel free to ask any other questions.

Thanks guys. I have plenty of time to get ready for prints and syringes. I figure about two months from injection to consumption if all goes well - is that about right? Once I get the jars set I'll be looking into those things.

If all goes well, taking into account this is my first try, I'll want to get into bulk and casings and maybe agar. For now I'm happy with the basics.

If you plan on doing all of the above that you mentioned get RR's video, it explains all of it and the best explanation for some one like me who learns visually. I think it is around $40 from the sponsors but money well spent.

Yep i use a 10psi. I just do everything for 70 minutes. You can cut time roughly in half if you use 1/4 pint jars. They put out about a dose per flush, sometimes more. Cleanliness is key. The videos are a fool-proof method, yet there are plenty of advanced ways to do it. Order RR's dvd it will give you a wealth of information on many aspects of cultivation. Once you get into grain to grain transfers, you'll never look back. Composted horse poo & coir, Straw logs, Monotubs is ftw. No need to incubate or keep jars in darkness. Just, in a clean area. Keep things simple.

It only takes me about a month from start to finish with pf tek jars but I usually use an LC. When I first started to use poo I was like I am playing with shit but then after the first time I was like it doesn't even smell its just like fiber pretty much. I would just keep it away from anything that you ingest.

A month would be great, but I'm expecting 2 due to my inexperience. It's getting cold here and I know I'll forget to monitor temp or something that will slow the process down.
I've been reading on bulk and some people say coir by itself works. Once I get to that stage, I'll probably go that route to start with since I have a few bricks anyway for my reptile friends.
Thanks to everyone for the help

What strain do you happen to be starting out with? As long as you keep your living area at a reasonable temp.(around 70) then you shouldn't have a problem.

Yeah a cube is a cube but IMO most do grow differently some of the stems are hollow some are meaty but both those strains were really fun.

Good luck! Im on my first grow with PF Tek. My jars are 60-70% colonized right now. Im gonna be doing a bulk to straight coir though. And I probably wont be doing PF anymore seeing as how Wild Bird Seed is cheap and all around. Plus grain is supposedly better for bulk. I want lots I love mushies and so do my friends

When (if) the pf tek works out I'll post some pics. I'm not planning on getting into the wbs and coir until I know I can grow the cakes and read up more. That's the plan as of today anyway
