I know that the same technique using malt extract (15 grams/liter) works very well. After you're satisfied with the growth try adding hydrogen peroxide before sucking it up into a syringe. This may reduce contamination problems.

How much peroxide would you add? I gather honey or malt mycellium water would work with any strain of mushroom.

Whatever you do don't mix the malt and honey they will interact and ferment and make beer in your jars and the alcohol will KILL it ALL.

I'd recomend peroxide at the standard 20:1 ratio of water(honey liquid) to 3% H2o2.------------------ -From a registered Mad Scientist "From a certain point of view" -Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi (also a Mad Scientist tm)

PM me with any cultivation questions.
I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Hell yeah! I tried this honey water thing and it worked great. It was easy and I got definite mycelial growth by the 2nd day. What a wonderful way to grow out spores. I'm about to try it with some Mazapatec spores. ` ------------------ Peace and Love, Baby!

Alphadave, You got to have yeast to get it to ferment. Hopefully people sterilise their media before using it Btw, both malt and honey brews ferment very good on their own. But if you're going to try that, i recommend you not to trust on wildyeast.

This is a little off the topic but Sparks made me think of something. I think that there are beers brewed in Belgium (I think they are called Lembic) that is left open to the wild environmental yeast to ferment it. They end up tasting fruity and the flovor depends on a large part on the location (different wild strains in different areas)

Yeah, tried it, didnt measure too carefully, just eyeballed it, untill it looked a good color.. and its kicking ass, and from what I can see no contam.. I pressure cooked it with my regular jars for 1 hour though.. I also tried a slightly different method: I made the honey water, pressure cooked that, and then sucked that into a syringe with about .5cc or less of spore water in to.. that is working even better than the jar!.. well, good luck to the rest of you.
