so... how much gypsum do you add to your substrate... per brick?

so I know 5-10% by volume as stated by several trusted cultivators.
but how much is like 10% of a brick of coir for instance?
I've been adding like 1/2 cup per brick of coir... but this is probably far less than 10%.
Perhaps math could calculate this more accurately, but I'm not sure of the volume of hydrated coir.
How much gypsum do you all use per brick of coir for instance?
I'm just not sure if my gypsum addition is making any difference to my sub - only half cup per brick...

One handful of gypsum to ten handfuls of hydrated coir or other substrate material will get you close enough. Of course, the math geeks will argue that's only 9%. RR

lol- well how many handfuls you think are in a brick of coir? of course your method there would work RR. makes my question look dumb.
I did find since I posted there that a brick of coir makes about 8 quarts hydrated. That equals 32 cups. so 10% is 3.2 cups...
I was using like half a cup per brick... So I conclude I am using far too little and my theory that I was using too little to benefit is probably true.
You think its safe then if I step up to several cups per brick? I usually put 2 bricks of coir plus some verm into a bucket, so I guess like 5 or 6 cups ought to come in safely below 10%.
I guess its trickier cause I like to dry mix everything in a bucket then add the 180 degree water and cover - thus pasteurizing and hydrating at the same time. Different then you do it RR I beleive.
And I just got your DVD RR, but skipped ahead to the agar section. Gonna pop some corn and watch this weekend.

A brick of coir is roughly 9 liters which is 36 cups so 10% of that would be 3.6 cups.. So add roughly 4 cups to a brick of coir...

yeah, roughly what I came up with. I just rounded down some cause 5-10% is ideal, and I didn't wanna risk going over that.
So there we have at least a basis to go off of, rather than just calling it 10% of volume, for those of us who prefer at least a ballpark to play in.
I'm satisfied unless RR has something to add, cause I don't think coir is in the DVD any...
Thanks
